Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred, ideally in Risk Management, Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or Actuarial Science.
  • At least 5 years of experience within the insurance industry, ideally with exposure to pet insurance, personal lines, or managing general agent environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing insurance products, pricing strategies, and underwriting frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of insurance market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and compliance processes.
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret data, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex problems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with a collaborative approach across departments and seniority levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic direction of the pet insurance product suite, ensuring alignment with managing general agent objectives, carrier expectations, and market opportunities.
  • Develop and refine underwriting guidelines, appetite statements, rating algorithms, and product structures to support profitable growth.
  • Identify unmet customer needs and emerging trends in the pet insurance sector and convert insights into product enhancements and new product concepts.
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle from ideation and feasibility assessment through development, launch, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
  • Lead market research, competitive benchmarking, and customer segmentation to identify whitespace opportunities and inform product positioning.
  • Monitor competitor pricing, coverage features, distribution strategies, and customer experience to maintain differentiated and relevant offerings.
  • Translate market intelligence into recommendations for product evolution, pricing adjustments, and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with actuarial teams to develop pricing strategies, risk models, and rating structures.
  • Work with underwriting to refine risk appetite, ensure operational consistency, and support decisions on complex or emerging risks.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and distribution partners on go-to-market strategies, product messaging, and launch plans.
  • Support portfolio analysis and performance reviews with finance, operations, and data teams to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Serve as the internal and external subject matter expert for assigned pet insurance products and provide guidance to underwriting, claims, distribution, and customer service teams.
  • Deliver product training, product education, and technical support to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Represent the organization in discussions with carriers, reinsurers, brokers, and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Drive innovation across insurance and non-insurance offerings, including wellness packages, loyalty programs, digital tools, and customer engagement features.
  • Benchmark value-added services against industry leaders to maintain a differentiated customer proposition.
  • Explore opportunities to integrate tele-veterinary services, artificial intelligence-driven claims tools, and pet wellness ecosystems into the product roadmap.
  • Stay current with regulatory developments, compliance requirements, and industry standards affecting pet insurance and managing general agent operations.
  • Ensure product materials, policy wordings, and rating structures meet regulatory and carrier requirements.
  • Support compliance reviews, audits, and documentation processes.
  • Support senior leadership with strategic initiatives, portfolio reviews, and business planning.

Venkat brings over 20 years of experience in insurance and financial services, having held senior positions at Argo Group, Clearcover and PURE Insurance, where she led underwriting, operations strategy and AI innovation. Earlier in her career, Venkat worked in product, pricing and risk management roles at Progressive, Kemper and Allianz/Fireman's Fund. She holds dual master's degrees in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research and Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Insurance Pet Holdings raised the money from 27 investors and sold stock, options and warrants.The company recently acquired cat insurance company Felix for an undisclosed amount. In addition to providing insurance for more than 800,000 pets, Insurance Pet also offers microchip identification and an online pet registry.Dogs make up the majority of insured pets in the United States, with 80.1% of insured dogs compared to 19.9% of insured cats, according to the North American Pet Health Insurance Association State of the Industry Report. The total number of pets insured in 2022 reached 5.36 million, up from 4.4 million in 2021, according to the report.The pet insurance market size was valued at $9.4 billion in 2022 and is estimated to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 17.04% from 2023 to 2030, according to Grand View Research.Its CEO is Lane Kent, who had served as chief operating officer since the company’s formation in 2021.
