Requirements

  • Four years of experience in patient access services-related jobs such as registration, scheduling, or insurance verification is required.
  • Some college education is preferred.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required to perform essential job functions affecting patient or employee safety and security.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers using a customer-service focus and positive-language principles is required.
  • Ability to work independently and with peers in a team situation is required.
  • Ability to handle challenging or difficult procedures and situations is required.
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to operate multiple computer systems, including hospital information systems and office software, are required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the patient access department while performing registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and related duties.
  • Assist with organizing work schedules and assignments and coordinate staff schedules to provide daily coverage.
  • Conduct quality assurance audits and audits of processes, outcomes, and team-member performance.
  • Train, orient, precept, mentor, and serve as a resource to less experienced staff and team members.
  • Provide feedback to the manager on developmental needs and assist with staff development, education, and competency improvement.
  • Lead and perform special projects, collect and analyze data, prepare regular reports, and share changes as appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between management, staff, physicians and physician offices, insurance providers, patients, and other parties to resolve routine questions and issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve patient, team-member, and system issues or errors, escalating matters to management as needed.
  • Monitor and adjust activities and assignments to support patient throughput and patient experience.
  • Conduct quality audits, document and evaluate processes and procedures, identify corrective-action and process-improvement opportunities, and follow up on action items.
  • Protect patient and family privacy rights, patient-record confidentiality, computer security codes, and privileged information.
  • Assist with implementing and educating staff on department initiatives, standards of practice, and protocols.
  • Reconcile and audit patient data using reporting tools and coordinate issue processing and resolution.
  • Monitor staffing, recommend adjustments to assignments and schedules, review team-member timecards as directed, and support efficient labor-cost utilization.
  • Monitor supplies and resources and order them as necessary.
  • Identify innovative process-improvement solutions and engage co-workers in learning opportunities.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and serve as an after-hours point of contact when required.
