Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required, with professional experience preferably in higher education or social service programs serving low-income students, career development, or human services.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills to identify needs, troubleshoot, recognize persistent issues, and improve process efficiencies.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the City University of New York, including its policies and procedures, and platforms such as CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, and EAB Navigate.
  • Ability to academically and personally advise students and support them in achieving their educational and career objectives.
  • Commitment to the advisement model and effective strategies for serving college students.
  • Experience building and managing partnerships and relationships with college support services, departments, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records as appropriate.
  • Ability to work in person on campus.
Responsibilities
  • Support program efforts to meet numeric goals for student participation, persistence, graduation, and employment.
  • Provide comprehensive academic advisement and career support services.
  • Conduct individual, group, and electronic advising sessions for a caseload of up to 100 students using an intrusive and developmental advisement model.
  • Provide direct services that support students through graduation.
  • Evaluate student progress toward fulfilling degree-program requirements.
  • Track and review student contacts monthly, maintain accurate academic and career development files, and recommend action plans to promote student success.
  • Conduct assessments and review student progress, including degree mapping and transition planning.
  • Collaborate with college departments, refer students, obtain student information, and receive referrals.
  • Collaborate with students to address challenges affecting participation in program activities.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts and contribute to the orientation of new students.
  • Work with students experiencing academic difficulties and develop tailored advisement interventions.
  • Oversee the operations of the CUNY EDGE Student Club.
  • Research and disseminate information about internal and external supports through a weekly newsletter.
  • Maintain and distribute information about fellowships, internships, housing, and other topics of interest to students.
  • Complete Human Resources Administration paperwork and collaborate with the Human Resources Administration to address issues related to students' public assistance cases.
  • Facilitate academic, personal, and professional development seminars and coordinate and promote additional college workshops.
  • Research opportunities and assist students in applying for internships, scholarships, and opportunity programs.
  • Collaborate with college leadership and the Central Office to ensure program quality.
  • Support the orientation of new students in the Fellowship Program.
  • Monitor and report engagement and participation in the Human Resources Administration Fellowship Program, Federal Work-Study, and internships using required data systems, including SEAMS and Research Foundation payroll.
  • Complete and collect Human Resources Administration, City College, and Research Foundation paperwork.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with fellowship placement sites.
  • Review student tracking and outcomes data as a member of the CUNY EDGE team.
  • Work some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the CUNY EDGE Director.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and technological skills.
  • Proficiency using standard office computer programs, systems, survey tools, and graphic design platforms such as Canva.
  • Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Administration systems.
  • Knowledge of career development and workshop facilitation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team while independently managing daily responsibilities.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
