Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university or a minimum of five years of golf course experience.
  • Passed the Playing Ability Test level of the PGA of America golf management training program and active progress toward PGA membership.
  • Obtain PGA Class A membership within four years of the date of hire.
  • Pass the Playing Ability Test and be enrolled in Level I of the PGA of America program.
  • Possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of professional techniques for playing and teaching golf, golf terminology, and etiquette.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals, techniques, and skills required for participation in golf.
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, player responsibilities, sportsmanship, etiquette, and traditions of golf.
  • Knowledge of competition and tournament techniques and terminology.
  • Knowledge of recent developments, trends, literature, and other resources for golf programs.
  • Skill in playing golf and instructing others in all phases of the game.
  • Skill in teaching individuals and groups at beginning and advanced proficiency levels.
  • Skill in evaluating market trends in golf sportswear and equipment and explaining those trends to customers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service, hospitality, professional advice, and assistance to patrons; instruct guests in course rules; and enforce golf-course usage rules and regulations.
  • Participate in daily Pro Shop operations, including maintaining inventory, receiving and pricing merchandise, managing supplies, displaying and promoting merchandise, processing sales, controlling play, checking in guests, collecting fees, scheduling tee times, maintaining the shop area, and accounting for cash and receipts.
  • Implement and maintain City, department, and golf-course policies and procedures.
  • Manage the Texas Golf Association e-clubhouse Golf Handicapping Information Network handicapping system and assist members with handicap services.
  • Provide golf instruction and develop, organize, and conduct junior and adult clinics and other programs.
  • Promote and encourage participation in golf.
  • Represent the City of New Braunfels at local, regional, and national golf tournaments; play with members and work on personal game.
  • Supervise and manage the Golf Programs Group in the absence of the Golf Manager.
  • Oversee, schedule, and train outside-services staff and volunteers as directed by the Golf Manager.
  • Manage the club-repair concession.
  • Monitor and review trends in golf and public recreation operations and management issues.
  • Work with golf organizations, community groups, vendors, and regional sports and recreation associations.
  • Respond to requests for information and provide technical information to recreation program management organizations.
  • Research technical issues and recommend solutions.
  • Perform other assigned or required duties.
