Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing, or an Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing with an additional two years of nursing experience beyond the minimum requirement.
  • Three years of nursing experience.
  • A current Texas Registered Nurse license, with permanent Texas licensure required within 60 days if establishing Texas residency.
  • Basic Life Support certification or instructor certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English sufficient to perform essential job functions affecting patient or employee safety and security.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
  • Ability to function independently and exercise judgment with physicians, the interprofessional care team, patients, and families.
  • Ability to use therapeutic communication, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and proficient time management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Outlook.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population with varied and complex needs.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, assist with examinations and treatment, and maintain medical records.
  • Lead department clinical activities and assess department needs related to practice and improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for department staff and coordinate department education in partnership with management.
  • Identify staff development opportunities, provide coaching, and oversee new employee preceptorships.
  • Develop, update, and communicate patient plans of care, including discharge or disposition, in partnership with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team.
  • Develop and implement patient teaching strategies and evaluate patient comprehension.
  • Provide care as the staff nurse leader for complex patients and lead the interprofessional healthcare team in implementing plans of care.
  • Anticipate, prevent, recognize, and resolve declines in patient condition and emergent situations.
  • Manage assignments involving complex patients and other department demands.
  • Identify practice-improvement opportunities using research-based evidence to achieve quality and patient-safety outcomes.
  • Contribute to professional practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, service-line standards, and clinical guidelines.
  • Partner on quality and safety initiatives, report near misses, and identify solutions with the interprofessional team.
  • Participate in resource stewardship and efficient use of capital and operational resources.
  • Implement department strategies to achieve financial targets and improve efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for practice changes and performance improvement and present evidence-based options to clinical leadership.
  • Champion new care pathways or service-line implementations.
  • Research practice changes and present options to appropriate clinical leadership.
  • Expand nursing knowledge, coach staff, and develop and disseminate educational resources and programs.
