- Serve as a member of a ferry boat crew while adhering to U.S. Coast Guard and Virginia Department of Transportation regulations.
- Direct vehicles and passengers to proper locations using clearly understood signals.
- Ensure proper spacing between vehicles.
- Allow safe egress of passengers.
- Chock the first and last vehicle in each lane.
- Provide information and assistance to passengers.
- Properly handle lines as required.
- Stand lookout watch when required.
- Patrol decks and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
- Ensure cleanliness of assigned areas and empty trash.
- Serve as Emergency Helmsman.
- Maintain the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of the vessel.
- Remain alert to security violations and suspicious behavior during routine vessel patrols.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Perform security sweeps of the vessel between unloading and loading to ensure passenger access areas are clear of passengers and vehicles at the end of each passage.
- A combination of training, experience, or education in Watercraft Operations or a related field.
- Emergency Helmsman Certification.
- Merchant Mariner Credential with any endorsement.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
