Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from an accredited program
  • Current full, unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of Alaska
  • Basic Life Support certification (must be obtained within 3 months of hire and biannually thereafter)
  • Clinical Competency within 3 months of hire and every three years
  • Must take and pass courses specific to unit needs (for example point-of-care testing or waived testing)
Responsibilities
  • Promotes the SEARHC Seven Standards of Excellence. Obtains nursing data through interviewing and observing patients/residents under a Licensed Nurse direction and review; documents observation findings consistent with other providers under a Licensed Nurse supervision; provides general nursing care for the adult and geriatric population, including bed baths, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, application of heat and cold appliances, anti-embolism stockings or sequential compression devices; monitors and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and intake-output measurements; collects and transports specimens to correct departments; distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings and reports abnormal findings to the Licensed Nurse; reports changes observed in condition or behavior and unusual incidents; performs other unit-specific tasks.
  • Provides bed side care including positioning, lifting and turning, assisting in use of bedpan/urinal/commode, answering call lights, rounds, ambulating, transporting to departments, assisting with meals, aiding in handling patient belongings, changing bed linen, cleaning over-bed table and bedside stand, and preparing for medivac transport including calls, copying papers, chart, and direct patient care; provides 1:1 care/sitting when indicated for patient safety.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment by preparing rooms, assisting in cleaning utility rooms, cleaning equipment and preparing for disinfection or sterilization, reporting equipment issues, handling clean and dirty linen, distributing and ordering supplies, and floats to other departments as needed.
  • Disposes solid and infectious waste per organizational policies, replenishes supplies in patient rooms and bathrooms, and performs other duties as assigned by nurse manager or charge nurse.
  • Participates in in-services and educational programs, completes mandatory training and annual competencies, participates in patient care conferences as applicable, attends at least 75 percent of staff meetings.
