Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A valid Tennessee driver's license is required.
- A valid Tennessee armed security guard/officer license or valid P.O.S.T. certification is required for current or previous full-time law enforcement officers.
- The candidate must be qualified to obtain a Special Deputy Bond through the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
- The candidate must obtain Basic Certification for the Healthcare Security Officer through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, Incident Command IS 100 and IS 200 certification, and National Preparedness IS 800 certification through the National Incident Management System within one year of employment.
- The candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
- The candidate must have oral and written communication, mediation, and interpersonal skills.
- The candidate must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and accept responsibility.
- The candidate must have strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- The candidate must be able to perform heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 to 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly; emergency situations may require moving up to 150 pounds.
- The candidate must be able to frequently bend, walk, sit, squat, reach, and stand, and perform keyboard or computer use and repetitive motions as required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain security for the hospital and all hospital-owned property adjacent to the main facility.
- Ensure the security and safety of patients, visitors, staff, and property by patrolling assigned interior and exterior hospital areas and maintaining control and order according to policies and procedures.
- Prepare daily shift reports documenting patrol activity, door locking and unlocking, and calls for service.
- Answer calls for service promptly and respond appropriately and professionally according to each situation.
- Admit authorized personnel to closed areas on request and document the location, requestor, and authorizing person.
- Investigate irregularities and criminal violations in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and Tennessee law.
- Provide escorts to visitors and staff upon request to ensure safe passage on campus.
- Respond promptly and professionally to emergency code calls, follow the applicable code policy, and respond to the heliport to assist with helicopter arrivals and departures.
- Prepare event and incident reports in accordance with departmental policy and perform arrests in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Log lost and found property and release property according to procedure.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance in accordance with hospital and departmental standards.
- Testify in court when required regarding matters within the candidate's knowledge or actions.
- Assist outside law enforcement agencies conducting official business within the hospital by providing directions, locations, and information while following hospital and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act rules and regulations.
- Maintain hospital-owned property in good working order and safeguard it from loss, theft, or damage.
- Use hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably and accept other assignments as requested.
