Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
  • A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, advancing Associate of the Society of Actuaries, or Career Associate of the Society of Actuaries designation with 12 or more years of experience.
  • At least 6 years of pension risk transfer, life insurance, or actuarial experience, including valuation experience.
  • Understanding of life insurance products and related risks.
  • Detailed knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standard 17 and/or United States generally accepted accounting principles reporting frameworks.
  • Experience maintaining controlled production processes.
  • Strong actuarial analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Actuarial software skills, including Moody’s AXIS experience.
  • Spreadsheet and database capabilities using Excel, Visual Basic for Applications, Statistical Analysis System, and Structured Query Language, including programming.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to manage changing demands and priorities, multitask in a deadline-oriented environment, and work independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities
  • Produce, analyze, and review International Financial Reporting Standard reserves and related financial information, including Best Estimate Liabilities, Risk Adjustment, and Contractual Service Margin, for Banner Life and affiliated entities, with a focus on the pension risk transfer business.
  • Understand and independently perform assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual valuation processes within specified deadlines, including directing the work of others as needed.
  • Oversee the development and calculation of the International Financial Reporting Standard Valuation Interest Rate, including reviewing and analyzing assets, preparing documentation, and coordinating with key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Investment Variance and Operating Profit analyses for the pension risk transfer business, working with other departments and company leadership.
  • Support modification and implementation of reporting processes for the company’s transition to United States generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Use Moody’s AXIS models and associated Structured Query Language processes to produce reserves and related financial metrics according to International Financial Reporting Standard requirements and actuarial principles.
  • Perform model evaluations, review results, conduct relevant analyses, and compile information for regulatory disclosures such as schedules and exhibits.
  • Maintain and enhance documentation of valuation processes, procedures, and controls.
  • Produce management information regarding reserves and related financial metrics and present analysis and review results to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Prepare materials for internal and external audit requests.
  • Ensure the continuing appropriateness and accuracy of International Financial Reporting Standard systems and compliance with applicable control frameworks.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement strategic solutions with broad business impacts.
  • Engage with stakeholders across Finance, Information Technology, and external parties to make changes to processes and controls affecting International Financial Reporting Standard valuation.
  • Comply with relevant professional development requirements and guidelines.
  • Lead and direct the work of others on the team as necessary.
  • Support additional cross-functional projects as required.
