Network Engineer

Job Description

Supports VDEM’s PBX and VOIP telecommunications system by troubleshooting issues, coordinating with vendors to correct problems as they occur. Installs and configures VOIP phones and voicemail for staff as needed. Coordinates with VITA/Northrop Grumman staff as VDEM begins to transform its network environment to the Common Wealth of Virginia domain. Coordinates the move of VDEM’s on-premises data center to a new location within the same facility. Coordinates facility re-cabling to support agency transformation and server room relocation. Develops documentation of existing network environment. Manages mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) by maintaining inventory, coordinates issuing devices to new staff, troubleshooting issues encountered by users. Coordinates telecommunications requests with VITA such as obtaining internet circuits for regional offices, troubleshooting wireless networks at VDEM facilities, requesting adds/removals of Airwatch MDM service for mobile devices.

Network Engineer: 4-7 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
