Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in orthotic fitting, patient care, or customer service, or a bachelor's degree in healthcare or a related field, or certification as an athletic trainer, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant, or medical assistant.
  • Obtain Orthotic Fitter Certification through the Board of Certification/Accreditation or the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work with frequent sitting and occasional lifting, carrying, pulling, and holding of 10 to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to work in environments with fluctuating temperatures.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with fitting and delivery of prefabricated orthotic devices and soft goods.
  • Provide professional customer service and patient education.
  • Decline to provide care and services for unstable cervical or spine conditions and acute treatment of long bone fractures and dislocations.
  • Assist with patient assessment, formulate plans of care, and discuss follow-up needs.
  • Assist with patient fitting and instruction for prescribed off-the-shelf orthotic devices and ancillary durable medical equipment products.
  • Obtain patient demographics, authorizations, and signatures; enter information into the computer and create and complete sales orders.
  • Communicate with referral sources to obtain additional information.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory and inventory records.
  • Stand and walk around the office and organization to provide services and attend meetings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in home medical equipment and patient care or athletic training.
