Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree is required.
  • Registration in Diagnostic Radiology is required.
  • Registration in Mammography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of setup and procedures used for stereotactic needle localization is required.
  • Ability to perform spot magnification and other specialized breast views is required.
  • Ability to assist physicians with procedures and biopsies is required.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to shift work, handle multiple priorities and stressful situations, make fast decisions under pressure, and perform sustained visual and mental concentration is required.
  • Ability to stand and walk considerably, lift light objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with lifting and moving patients is required.
Responsibilities
  • Open the unit, turn on and prepare equipment, test equipment, and organize paperwork and supplies for scheduled examinations.
  • Inform the supervisor or physicist when equipment repair or additional testing is needed.
  • Greet patients, obtain a brief history, explain examinations, answer questions, and address patient concerns.
  • Conduct radiographic examinations, develop and quality-check images, determine whether additional views are needed, and consult the radiologist when appropriate.
  • Release patients after verifying the readability of x-ray images.
  • Prepare patient files, films, and records for radiologist review and ensure patient history forms are complete.
  • Maintain the department and dark room in a clean and orderly condition and keep supplies and chemicals stocked.
  • Close the unit and ensure materials are stored and secured and machines are clean and ready for use.
  • Maintain current knowledge of radiography and mammography through lectures and seminars and communicate relevant findings to patients.
  • Perform radiography and ancillary functions as directed and coordinate activities with areas throughout Radiology.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Perform quality assurance testing of x-ray machines and processors, compile testing data, and maintain records.
  • Maintain unsupervised access to medication rooms for stocking and retrieving supplies.
  • Provide customer service consistent with the organization’s mission, values, and service standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, compliance requirements, ethics standards, and organizational policies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
