CF Industries shares drop 10% on Iran ceasefire but remain up 63% YTD

CF Industries shares fell nearly 10% on 8 April following news of a US-Iran ceasefire, which is expected to normalise shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and restore global fertiliser supply flows. The stock later recovered to close down more than 5%. Despite the decline, CF Industries shares remain up over 63% year-to-date, benefiting from access to lower-priced US natural gas compared to overseas competitors. The company reported strong 2025 results, with revenue of $7.08 billion (up 19%) and earnings per share of $8.97 (up 32.6%). CF Industries repurchased $1.34 billion in stock during 2025 and has paid dividends for 21 consecutive years, currently yielding around 1.59%. The company gained market share when Middle East competitors faced shipping disruptions, with approximately 25% of US farmers yet to secure full fertiliser supplies.

"Each year, this event continues to grow in both scale and impact. I'm incredibly proud of our team and grateful to everyone who played a role in its success." Hosting more than 700 guests, the Black and Gold Gala offered attendees the opportunity to bid in a silent auction featuring unique gifts and experiences donated by local businesses and organizations, as well as one-of-a-kind items and extravagant vacation packages. Guests also tried their luck at a punch wall with gift certificates ranging from $25 to $100 donated by local businesses. With an open bar, casino games, and live entertainment, all enhanced by elegant lighting sponsored by Peoples Health, guests enjoyed an evening of networking, dancing, and celebration. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Jefferson Chamber of Chamber in accomplishing its mission to support business growth, provide resources, and enhance partnerships to support a thriving community.

Strait of Hormuz blockade drives oil and fertiliser prices, boosting CF Industries, ExxonMobil and Vaalco

The ongoing Strait of Hormuz blockade is driving up oil and fertilizer prices, creating opportunities for certain commodity stocks. Oil futures have surged roughly 60% year to date, with a 30% rally since late February. CF Industries stands to benefit from fertilizer shortages without production disruptions, as it doesn't source inputs via the strait. The company grew net earnings to $1.46 billion in 2025 and bought back $1.34 billion in shares. ExxonMobil, the largest publicly traded US oil company, earned $28.8 billion in 2025 and offers a 2.5% dividend yield. The stock gained over 80% in 2022 during a previous price surge. Vaalco Energy, operating in Gabon, Egypt and Côte d'Ivoire, has outperformed with nearly 70% year-to-date gains and offers a 4% dividend yield.

CF Industries surges 11.9% as Middle East disruptions tighten fertilizer markets

CF Industries Holdings has risen 11.9% after Middle East supply disruptions tightened global nitrogen markets and lifted fertilizer prices, highlighting the company's competitive advantage from access to relatively low-cost US natural gas. However, the company faces growing political and regulatory scrutiny over sharp urea price increases, including ongoing Department of Justice investigation into fertilizer pricing practices. This attention comes as CF accelerates its push into low-carbon ammonia through initiatives including a partnership with POET for low-carbon fertilizer production and carbon capture projects. The company's investment narrative now hinges on how long geopolitically driven fertilizer price tightness persists, balanced against regulatory risks. CF's narrative projects $6.4 billion revenue and $1.0 billion earnings by 2028, implying a slight revenue decline and earnings decrease from current levels.
