Requirements
- A minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise storage environments, including at least 4 years focused on Ultrium LTO tape migrations in large-scale production settings.
- Demonstrated success leading multiple full-scale LTO tape library migrations, not just refreshes or small-scale copies.
- Deep technical knowledge of Ultrium LTO technology, including drive compatibility, media management, encryption, WORM, and partitioning.
- Proficiency with leading tape libraries and automation, including IBM TS4500, IBM TS3500, HPE MSL, Quantum Scalar, and Spectra Black Pearl.
- Experience integrating LTO platforms with IBM Spectrum Protect, Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, and Veeam.
- Strong understanding of SAN/NAS fabrics, zoning, multipathing, and host connectivity across AIX, Linux, and Windows.
- Proven project-management skills to deliver under tight timelines and strict change-control processes.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute end-to-end migration strategies for Ultrium LTO tape libraries, drives, and media from LTO-5 through current generations.
- Manage large-scale data migrations in multi-petabyte environments, including media inventory, robotic library reconfiguration, tape copy or refresh, and host-based migrations.
- Develop detailed migration plans, risk assessments, rollback procedures, and cutover schedules aligned with production service-level agreements.
- Perform pre- and post-migration validation, including data integrity checks, performance testing, and compliance reporting.
- Collaborate with client infrastructure, backup, and operations teams and with hardware vendors including IBM, HPE, Quantum, and Spectra Logic.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to LTO drives, media errors, library robotics, SAN fabric, and backup software integration.
- Document migration activities, lessons learned, and as-built configurations for client handover.
Desired Qualifications
- Current certifications in IBM Storage, Storage Networking Industry Association, or vendor-specific LTO credentials.
- Experience with tape-to-disk, tape-to-cloud, or LTO generational upgrades in regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, or government.
- Familiarity with automation scripting using Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.
