Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification and/or state licensure is required as applicable under state regulations.
  • The candidate must complete Basic Life Support certification.
  • The candidate must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers and positioning for patients weighing up to 400 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to stand in a protective apron for up to 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Working knowledge of interventional equipment, including C-arm and ultrasound equipment, is required.
  • Experience with interventional procedures and with using, ordering, and maintaining the materials and supplies required for each procedure is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with sterile techniques are required.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective devices used when operating radiology systems is required.
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining inventory is required.
  • Proficiency with computers and related software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians in performing interventional radiology procedures.
  • Operate and perform quality control of radiological equipment in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and training.
  • Prepare patients and procedure rooms for radiology procedures in compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Review patient-specific procedure orders to determine required materials and supplies.
  • Set up and stock procedure rooms and procedure trays with required supplies and interventional equipment before procedures, and clean the procedure room and equipment after procedures.
  • Explain procedures to patients, answer questions, and address patient concerns.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures by positioning, shaving, and prepping them.
  • Transfer and transport patients to and from procedure rooms.
  • Input patient data into the C-arm.
  • Act as a scrub assistant during interventional procedures and administer fluoroscopy while maintaining sterile technique.
  • Comply with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality.
  • Draw up intravenous medication and label it according to the organization’s medication-labeling policy.
  • Process x-ray images and archive them to the image repository, CD, or DVD in accordance with medical-record policies and regulations.
  • Support quality standards and continuous quality improvement activities, including use of continuous quality improvement tools.
  • Assist with implementing quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
  • Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and compliant; maintain their integrity, file paperwork, and perform regular audits.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and aesthetically appropriate environment.
  • Inspect facility equipment and instruments before and after procedures to ensure proper working condition.
  • Recommend equipment replacement and repairs.
  • Assist with disposal of hazardous waste materials, dirty linen, and rugs.
  • Prepare, organize, and efficiently use supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
  • Attend and participate in Governing Body meetings, including assisting with agendas and gathering data and materials.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians.
  • Attend and participate in continuous quality improvement meetings with physicians and report on assigned topics.
  • Work with physicians and staff to ensure required instruments and equipment are available.
  • Address physician concerns within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Review procedures, document patient equipment charges, and verify CPT and ICD-9 codes to support accurate and timely billing.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering supplies, and restocking supplies.
  • Act as Radiation Safety Officer, monitor radiation badges, and conduct radiation-safety in-services.
  • Participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans addressing identified deficiencies.
  • Travel approximately 10% as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate’s degree is desirable.
  • A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • An interventional radiology certificate is preferred.
  • Four to six years of related experience is desirable.
  • One year of experience is preferred for candidates with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification.
