Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology or another related field is required.
  • At least 7 years of comprehensive food safety and quality experience, including an extensive background in the food manufacturing industry, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points principles, BRC standards, quality improvement tools, and root cause analysis is required.
  • Good understanding of food regulations for Canada and the United States is required.
  • Good understanding of process variability, process capability, and statistical process control is required.
  • GFSI, PCQI, HACCP, and internal audit certification, along with previous experience leading audits, preferably to the BRC standard, is required.
  • The candidate must be capable of working on and leading a diverse team.
  • Strong multitasking, analytical, and decision-making skills, including the ability to identify root causes and solve problems, are required.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and time-management skills, with attention to detail, are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to make presentations, conduct training, and write policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and uphold Riverside’s core values and purpose.
  • Take ownership of the plant’s Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Establish and maintain food safety and quality standards for processes and products.
  • Establish and maintain records to measure and track quality performance.
  • Contribute to the plant team’s efforts to obtain the highest possible ratings in external audits, including unannounced BRC and customer audits.
  • Lead the voice of consumers and facilitate or implement quality systems that provide consistently high-quality products.
  • Apply for and maintain regulatory and relevant industry certifications.
  • Ensure all regulatory, certification, and internal audits are completed successfully and on time, including CFIA, FDA, BRC, Gluten-Free Certification Organization, Kosher, Organic, Vegan, and RSPO audits.
  • Ensure all private-label company requirements and audits are met while building positive relationships with private-label customers.
  • Complete formal risk assessments for food safety, quality, food fraud, and vulnerability for all new raw materials and innovation items before launch approval.
  • Support the R&D team with the development, validation, training, monitoring, and accuracy of all critical parameters, including CTP, CTQ, and CTC, and support the definition of sampling plans for critical-to-quality parameters.
  • Demonstrate leadership in quality and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the plant Food Safety and Quality Assurance team and ensure required internal documentation and regulatory records remain current.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service to respond to consumer and customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Facilitate root-cause analysis and support plant leadership in implementing corrective and preventive actions for quality and food-safety complaints.
  • Monitor, train, cross-train, coach, and mentor staff.
  • Manage staff hiring, performance evaluations, discipline, and termination.
  • Coordinate training and coaching of plant staff on quality-related processes and procedures during manufacturing.
  • Manage quality-related communication across all plant departments.
  • Ensure continuous improvement.
