About the Position

As TrialSpark’s first dedicated IP Counsel, you will be responsible for all things IP for a rapidly growing young pharma company taking on and developing drug assets with its tech-enabled clinical trial engine. Though you will focus primarily on the company’s IP efforts, you should expect the opportunity to work on any number of legal matters with stakeholders across the company as we grow and improve our mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities

• Establish and scale our IP operations
• Lead IP diligence for drug asset in-licensing, acquisition, and/or partnering transactions in collaboration with BD. Outline patent strengths and weaknesses to inform deal strategy and decisions.
• Manage all aspects of patent portfolio, including global prosecution, associated payments, and patent strategy for an expanding portfolio to maximize exclusivity
• Determine international geographies of focus for prosecution
• Own trademark registrations and management, including TTAB matters
• Judiciously outsource to external IP firms and supervise their work product to ensure high quality and cost-effective support
• Draft, negotiate, and drive IP-related agreements or provisions
• Distill complex IP concepts for legal and non-legal colleagues
• Manage internal IP materials and resources
• Exercise pragmatic, risk-based, and adaptable judgment to prioritize work and obligations

About You 

• A law degree from a top-tier law school and qualified to practice law in-house in New York
• 5+ years patent experience at a top law firm and/or in house at a pharma company, with a focus on life sciences patents
• Registered with USPTO
• Sufficient familiarity with and exposure to trademark matters to consolidate this work from the rest of the Legal team
• You are a high growth learner who’s scrappy, flexible, and self-motivated, and able to thrive within a nascent role by creating structure out of ambiguity
• Service-orientation but able to advocate for and drive issues independently
• A team player who works well with non-legal stakeholders
• Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills
• Eye for organization but also efficiency
• Degree in life sciences is valued
• Experience across the drug development cycle preferred

We offer competitive compensation because we want to hire the best people and reward them for their contributions to our mission. We pay all employees competitively relative to the New York City market, regardless of their location. In compliance with NYC’s pay transparency law and in pursuit of pay equity and fairness, we publish salary ranges for all open roles at TrialSpark. The target salary range for this role is $205,000 - $260,000
