Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • One year of professional experience is required; additional qualifying work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis for up to four years.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administrative structure and responsibilities is required.
  • Knowledge of athletics policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and other laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances is required.
  • Oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products is required.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize within a unit and department environment, and manage large-scale athletics-related projects is required.
  • Employment eligibility verification and work authorization documentation must be completed as required by federal immigration law.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising, monitoring, and developmental support to student-athletes.
  • Serve as the primary academic counselor for Women's Basketball and other Olympic or varsity sport programs assigned according to department needs.
  • Assist student-athletes with academic progress, degree completion, career planning, and personal development.
  • Ensure adherence to University of Maryland, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Interact with staff, coaches, and student-athletes in person, by phone, and virtually.
  • Attend meetings and conduct orientations as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience directly supporting high-visibility or high-demand Division I sports programs, such as Men's or Women's Basketball or Football, is preferred.
  • Active membership in N4A (National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with student success software and campus systems such as Navigate, Canvas, and SIS/Testudo is preferred.
