The Sensors Division at STR focuses on applied research and development of sensor systems, to include airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, and EO/IR sensing. Within this role, we perform work at full system prototypes, experimental campaigns and technology component development focused on creating meaningful impact for Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) mission needs.

The Advanced Systems Development (ASD) Group within the Sensors Division focuses on applied research leading to the advanced development of acoustic and optical sensors, sonar systems, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV’s) and payloads, and ocean engineered hardware often tied to general experimental set-up and measurements.

STR is hiring an Mechanical Engineer to initially support a material development program to enhance the performance of optical fibers as acoustic sensors and the development and construction of vector sensors with the expectation to extend their experience to new UUV, UUV payload, and sensor applications.

Responsibilities:

Collaborating as part of a focused team to design and construct novel acoustic materials.
Construction and testing of vector sensors.
Development and construction of test equipment for evaluating vector sensors.
Collaborating as part of a team to develop approaches to coating optical fibers.
Design review preparation and presentation.
Test plan generation and documentation

Required Qualifications:
