Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of University of California Academic Personnel policies and procedures.
  • High-level writing skills to compose professional reports, correspondence, job descriptions, policies and procedures, and other documents.
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, and procedures to define problems or objectives, identify relevant concerns or factors, identify patterns and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with campus administrators, faculty, staff, and students from varied ethnic, social, and educational backgrounds, provide information, identify problems, and develop solutions.
  • Experience working with confidential information and using sensitivity, tact, and discretion in internal and external communications.
  • Skill in assessing priorities to complete work timely in an environment of deadlines, competing priorities, and heavy and changing workloads.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated success interpreting, comprehending, and analyzing complex Academic Personnel policies and procedures.
  • Experience with data collection techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
  • Proficiency using computerized business systems and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to develop and implement training programs and present to large and small groups.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Working knowledge of California laws and regulations pertaining to medical licensure and certificates of registration.
  • Working knowledge of the University of California Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and experience in personnel administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of experience.
  • Ability to provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Resolve moderate to complex academic human resources issues affecting a broad range of academic titles.
  • Manage all academic functions in the Departments of Family Medicine and Radiation Oncology.
  • Handle equal opportunity and affirmative action issues, academic recruitment, appointments, merit increases, promotions, sabbaticals, grievances, layoffs, union issues, employee relations, compensation, and training and development.
  • Advise department chairs, chief administrative officers, department administrators, and faculty on Academic Personnel concerns.
  • Manage academic appointments and annual renewals for all full-time and part-time faculty.
Desired Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of University of California Human Resources and labor relations policies and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Equal Opportunity and Diversity initiatives as they relate to the University of California.
  • Extensive knowledge of requirements for hiring international employees, including the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services visa request process at the University of California.
  • Extensive knowledge of University of California, Irvine campus departments and central administrative offices, including their services, roles, and responsibilities.
