Responsibilities
  • Own the design, architecture, governance, and ongoing development of the Center’s Airtable environment and related systems, including tables, fields, forms, automations, permissions, and integrations.
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce required systems, workflows, and data standards for Center activities, including program intake, review, execution, tracking, and reporting.
  • Design tools and workflows that make ownership, deadlines, progress, and accountability visible without manual follow-up.
  • Translate operational and program needs into scalable, repeatable system solutions.
  • Eliminate redundant tools, shadow spreadsheets, and inconsistent tracking practices.
  • Monitor system usage, train staff and student workers on required systems, and escalate non-compliance when established workflows are not followed.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and guidance to support required system use.
  • Serve as the Center’s internal expert on Airtable and related workflow tools.
  • Build and maintain Airtable dashboards and reports for leadership, Advancement, and other stakeholders.
  • Define how engagement, participation, outcomes, and progress are measured across the Center.
  • Own data collection and reporting for rankings, surveys, annual reports, and institutional requests.
  • Ensure impact data is consistent, defensible, and reproducible.
  • Support longitudinal tracking of individuals and ventures across multiple programs and years.
  • Support the execution of Center programs, events, and activities, including ensuring systems, tools, and data needs are met before, during, and after program delivery.
  • Partner with program, communications, and operations staff to support event logistics, workflows, and follow-up.
  • Assist with preparation for Center activities, including competitions, showcases, and signature events.
  • Provide hands-on support during high-volume program periods to ensure smooth execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

August 28, 2026 A movie trailer, local TV spot and documentaries produced by WashU Medicine Marketing & Communications recently won five Telly awards, an international contest honoring excellence in TV and video production. The 47th annual competition recognizes creators, brands and production companies from national television networks, movie studios, major brands, sports teams and universities, among others. The organization received nearly 14,000 entries, a 6% increase from last year and the most ever. And the awards go to... * "In Our Lifetime - Part 1: A Piece of Me" follows a family burdened by inherited early-onset Alzheimer's disease and the hope they find in research led by WashU Medicine. The documentary received a silver award in the category Branded Content - Documentary: Short Form (Under 40 minutes). The team included (cinematographer and editor) Huy Mach, WashU Medicine senior video producer; (producer) Macallan Lay, project manager; (director) Josh Kell, assistant vice chancellor and executive creative director; and Jessica Church, director of media relations. * "Changing What's Possible" is a powerful, 30-second look into WashU Medicine's approach to advancing medicine. The commercial received a silver award in the Local TV Craft Writing category. A painless punch with a microneedle patch could detect kidney disease earlier. Kidney disease is silent in its early stages, progressing without symptoms until the disease is advanced. Researchers in the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, in collaboration with researchers at WashU Medicine and at Texas A&M University, have been developing a minimally invasive method to improve diagnosis in earlier stages. New research from the lab of Srikanth Singamaneni, the Lilyan & E. Lisle Hughes Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science, shows the early success of a microneedle patch that can be applied on the skin to quickly and safely capture biomarkers and quantify them accurately. The patch detected early signs of kidney injury and may one day support home or point-of-care monitoring without requiring refrigeration. Results of their research were published online Aug. 5 in Advanced Materials. It is the first study to show that encapsulating biomolecules on microneedles preserved their biological functions. The research team, which includes Yixuan Wang, a doctoral student in Singamaneni's lab, created microneedles coated with a metal-organic framework (MOF) that can sample interstitial fluid in the skin. The microneedles are coated with a material that creates a shell that detects and preserves neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) antibodies, which are an early biomarker of acute kidney injury. The MOF shell preserved the antibodies for up to four weeks at 50 C (122 F) without refrigeration. "This metal-organic framework encapsulation is a simple and highly effective way to create microneedle sensors that are resilient to environmental challenges and provide a scalable path to minimally invasive biosensing for at-home or remote health monitoring," Singamaneni said. NGAL increases in the blood within hours of a kidney injury and is a clinically validated biomarker for kidney damage. However, because it requires drawing blood with a needle and cold-chain logistics, it has not been useful in home-based or resource-limited settings. Previously, Singamaneni and collaborators established another type of microneedle patches that can look for biomarkers of disease. Adapting that low-cost, easy-to-use technology required them to create a biosensor with high sensitivity and a broader range, as well as addressing cold-chain logistics. (Headquarters: Tokyo, "Eisai") announced today that Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis ("WashU Medicine") held a ceremony unveiling a plaque honoring the longstanding contributions and achievements of CEO Haruo Naito and Eisai in healthcare, including in the field of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The plaque, commemorating these achievements, will be permanently displayed on a wall in the lobby of the Jeffrey T. Fort Neuroscience Research Building (NRB). CEO Haruo Naito and Eisai were recognized for their long-term and significant contributions to WashU Medicine and the Knight Family Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network-Trials Unit (DIAN-TU), as well as for the profound impact CEO Naito's leadership and vision have had on patients, families and researchers around the world. In particular, in the AD field, the Phase II/III Tau NexGen Study conducted by the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network Trials Unit (DIAN-TU), led by the University's School of Medicine, is exploring the safety, tolerability, biomarkers and cognitive efficacy of Eisai's anti-MTBR (microtubule binding region) tau antibody etalanetug (E2814) for the treatment of dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease (DIAD). In this study, the anti-amyloid beta (Aβ) protofibril antibody lecanemab was selected as the backbone anti-amyloid therapy. Bur, MD, FACS, a nationally known oncologist and reconstructive surgeon, will also co-lead the Head and Neck Tumor Center at Siteman Cancer Center Andrés M. Bur, MD, FACS, has been named chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at WashU Medicine and co-director of the Robert Ebert and Greg Stubblefield Head and Neck Tumor Center at Siteman Cancer Center, based at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WashU Medicine. He will co-lead the Head and Neck Tumor Center at Siteman alongside fellow directors and WashU Medicine physicians Douglas R. Adkins, MD, a medical oncologist, and Wade L. Thorstad, MD, a radiation oncologist. Bur begins his new roles Oct. 22. As a nationally recognized head and neck surgical oncologist and reconstructive surgeon, Bur has built an outstanding academic program centered on precision oncology, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, radiomics and translational head and neck cancer research, said Sid Puram, MD, PhD, FACS, the head of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery and the Lindburg Professor of Otolaryngology at WashU Medicine. Puram, who was appointed head of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at WashU Medicine in October, previously served as co-director of the Head and Neck Tumor Center at Siteman. "Dr. Bur's work has advanced the application of AI to surgical decision-making, imaging, outcomes prediction and clinical workflow while maintaining a strong emphasis on improving patient outcomes through multidisciplinary cancer care," Puram said. "His track record is one of surgical innovation, multidisciplinary cancer care, mentorship of trainees and translational research." Bur joins WashU Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he has served as the David S. Zamierowski Professor, vice chair of research, vice chair of Innovation and Technology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and director of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Head and Neck Surgery.
