Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats based on history, mental status examination, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician, when appropriate.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research, when appropriate.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potential to precept trainees at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider trainee; and facilitates the learning of other new team members.
  • Maintains licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
  • Works to understand the needs of patients and their families, and assists with care planning and goal setting, working to resolve conflicts when they arise.
  • Assumes responsibility for management of care for assigned patient caseload, establishing treatment plans with collaborating/supervising physician and monitoring treatment response and clinical practice.
  • Monitors care when delivered, acts as a clinical expert, role model and teacher/preceptor for nurses, students, interns and residents.
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of mental health provider experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Expertise in medication management is highly desirable.
