We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer - Power Electronics to work on new power electronics product development. You will design new solutions to help create green hydrogen and complete from prototype to production.
You will be based in San Jose, CA, and report to our Mechanical Engineering Manager, Power Electronics.
Responsibilities
Work on analysis and design of mechanical aspects of high-power electronic sources for hydrogen electrolyzers. This includes:
- Concept development of design or redesign major assemblies
- Design of NEMA 3R electrical equipment enclosures
- Design sheet metal parts for electronics packaging
- Design structural components and weldments
- Perform detailed calculations, structural FEA analysis
- Design high current components and supports
- Lead detailed mechanical design of power bussing and bus interfaces for DC output
- Create and update detail fabrication drawings
- Update BOMs and support documentation
- Create test plans, identify cause of failures, implement fixes
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in product design from concept to production
- 1+ years of experience with plumbing and pump selection
- Experienced in high voltage, high current electronics packaging
- Proficient in 3D modeling and CAD drawings (SolidWorks)
- Familiar with FEA software to solve for thermal, stress and fluid dynamics
- Knowledge of electronics cooling methods
- Thermal design: conduction, natural/forced convection
- Working knowledge of scripting (matlab, python) or any other data analysis tools
- Basic knowledge of electric fundamentals
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in low and medium volume production
- Familiarity with cast metals, plastics and other common material fabrication methods
- Experienced in electronics packaging, cooling and plumbing
- Proven self motivation; identifies issues and creates solutions
- Working knowledge of scripting (matlab, python) or any other data analysis tools
- Basic knowledge of electric fundamentals
- Startup experience preferred.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.
