Requirements
  • Vocational training, an apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through less than two years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • A college or university degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience using centrifuges is preferred.
  • Experience with DNA extraction is preferred.
  • Experience with peripheral blood mononuclear cell isolation is preferred.
  • Experience working with human biospecimens is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based operating systems and common software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based applications is preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail, responsibility, and professionalism are preferred competencies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds are preferred competencies.
Responsibilities
  • Process whole blood into plasma, serum, and DNA components.
  • Isolate peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
  • Aliquot fecal samples.
  • Assist in processing human tissue samples.
  • Use an electronic inventory management system to track sample custody and long-term storage locations in the HTRC Freezer Farm.
  • Communicate with Clinical Research Coordinators and investigators about sample delivery, process times, and sample questions via phone, email, or pager.
  • Access -80°C and liquid nitrogen (-196°C) freezers and a dry ice chest with appropriate personal protective equipment to retrieve and store biospecimens.
  • Maintain adequate stock of laboratory supplies.
  • Provide technical and administrative support in a laboratory environment by performing basic laboratory techniques, research, and analysis under direction.
  • Perform routine or standardized laboratory duties and collect data in support of research projects under direct supervision.
  • Collect and enter data; assist with data analysis and the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Comply with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
