Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions when assessing and resolving student issues is required.
  • Ability to collect and analyze student trends and academic records related to retention and academic success is required.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records, detailed advisor notes, quarterly reports, and approximately 350-400 student files is required.
  • Ability to meet individual advisor registration targets is required.
  • Ability to follow department dress code guidelines and use the approved background for virtual appointments is required.
Responsibilities
  • Counsel students on degree curricula, academic regulations, prerequisites, graduation requirements, procedures, policies, and Official Advising Reports.
  • Develop personalized degree plans and counsel students on timely degree progress and completion.
  • Proactively contact students throughout their courses to assess preparedness and determine whether assistance is needed.
  • Monitor and track student progress each semester and recommend courses for subsequent terms.
  • Advise and assess requests involving course drops, academic and curriculum waivers, program changes, minor declarations, catalog changes, updated Official Advising Reports, graduation applications, and approval to take courses at another institution.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and partner offices and colleges.
  • Maintain working knowledge of tuition costs, dates, and deadlines to prepare students for tuition payment and course planning.
  • Provide personalized advising for at-risk students, including students on conditional admission, academic warning, and probation.
  • Promote student retention, outreach, appointments, and engagement.
  • Promote scholarship opportunities, institutional aid initiatives, Honors information, alumni affinity groups, career services, and other organizations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to address student challenges affecting course completion, retention, and persistence.
  • Assist students with course textbooks and issues involving required course materials.
  • Assist students with navigating ERNIE, Campus Solutions, Canvas, and other university platforms.
  • Contact students at matriculation, regarding next-term enrollment, at mid-point check-ins, when at-risk indicators arise, during inactive status, and when students are about to break status.
  • Contact new students upon matriculation, welcome them to the university, review degree plans, and discuss enrollment next steps, funding, prerequisites, corequisites, and Campus Solutions to-do items.
  • Contact enrolled students each semester to discuss course progress, answer questions, and address challenges affecting course completion and future progression.
  • Contact inactive students to address challenges affecting degree progression.
  • Contact and congratulate Dean's List and Honor Roll students.
  • Contact graduating students to congratulate them, review commencement details, and promote alumni engagement.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and campus resources to create a supportive student network.
  • Enter and maintain accurate information in Campus Solutions, Salesforce, Imaging, SharePoint, and other university platforms.
  • Document student records with detailed advisor notes regarding conversations and student status.
  • Reconcile and resolve individual student enrollment and academic issues.
  • Evaluate student prerequisite knowledge and ensure students enroll in and meet curriculum requirements.
  • Assist with coverage of student files when advisors are on extended personal leave.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Appreciative Advising certification and/or training is preferred.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Salesforce or other advising tools is preferred.
