  • Associate’s degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or equivalent experience in the design of electrical and controls systems
  • Three years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and familiarity with electrical design practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software (or an equivalent) and Microsoft Office software; competency in software applications for email and databases
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to structural components
  • Working knowledge of structural steel types and materials; working knowledge of mechanical design principles and practices
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear plant access
  • Overtime work is required
  • Travel to client sites with periods of field/office work
  • Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment (climbing ladders, working at height, carrying up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous zones)
Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, design, and development of electrical drawings for various projects under guidance from engineers or supervision
  • Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, and installation supervision
  • Independently apply working knowledge of electronics and electrical systems and computerized drafting methods to prepare electrical drawings including wiring diagrams, one-lines, and schematics
  • Draw complex electrical systems from sketches or specifications using appropriate symbology, terms, procedures, and drafting standards
  • Prepare bills of materials
  • Resolve client comments
  • Prepare as-built drawings
  • Review manufacturers’ drawings and other discipline drawings
  • Communicate with the engineer and other disciplines to resolve design problems
  • Advise, assist, and occasionally direct drafting personnel in performance of their duties
  • Produce complex engineering drawings in 2-D or 3-D
  • Check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards, and completeness
  • Participate in field walk downs to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches
  • Develop drawings with project engineers and other disciplines to resolve design discrepancies
  • Interface with customer and construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to utilize various drafting and computer-aided design techniques as required for project requirements
  • Knowledge of MicroStation (preferred) and/or AutoCAD is essential
  • Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus
  • Additional certifications and/or courses in basic electronics and/or electrical systems desired
  • Export controls compliance capability may be considered in hiring processes

Zachry Group awarded Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource's Combined Cycle Generation Project. SAN ANTONIO-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Zachry Group (Zachry) has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for NiSource Inc.'s Combined Cycle Generation Project, a major infrastructure project located near Wheatfield, Indiana. The facility will support NiSource's delivery of electricity to a third-party customer and includes two nominal 1,300-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle units in a 2 x 2 x 1 configuration. A subsidiary of NiSource Inc. will own and operate the facility. The EPC contract will be executed by a joint venture between Zachry Group and Quanta Services, Inc. (Quanta). Zachry will lead engineering, procurement, project management, construction planning, and commissioning, drawing on its five decades of experience designing and building over 100 gas-fired facilities totaling more than 60,000 megawatts. Quanta will contribute field-level leadership and craft workforce management through its operating companies. This collaborative approach is designed to enhance execution certainty, optimize labor resources, and deliver cost-effective, high-quality infrastructure.
