Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, structural, civil or chemical engineering preferred.
  • 2-5+ years process engineering experience
  • Ability to travel up to 30% to Lhoist sites
  • Knowledge of the lime/minerals manufacturing processes including various kiln, milling, firing, stone preparation crushing/sizing & hydrator systems
  • Working knowledge of process control, instrumentation and automation
  • Proficient in statistical process control and data analysis
  • Excellent communication, presentation and technical writing skills
  • Proficient with Excel (advanced), PowerPoint and Word
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-disciplinary way with all levels of organization
  • Team player with positive and proactive mindset
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision on multiple projects

  • Contribute to optimization of plant fuel and power consumption and cost
  • Promote continuous improvement culture
  • Provide technical support and direction to operations for equipment and process problems
  • Assist with implementation of system improvements & projects
  • Support plants with operation to minimize emissions within permit limits
  • Provide expertise in environmental technologies and safe operation of equipment to ensure license to operate
  • Define process conditions with Regional Environmental Manager to comply with regulations
  • Contribute to permit applications
  • Facilitate trials and production of new products
  • Establish baseline & process limits (benchmarking) for major equipment
  • Conduct fan audits to assess efficiency
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to plant personnel on new and existing processes and be a resource for information for design and installation of process equipment applicable to lime/minerals manufacturing processes
  • Lead process audits including heat and mass balance measurements and calculations to identify improvement opportunities
  • Lead studies on raw materials and fuels to determine and evaluate potential improvements and impact on quality and efficiency
  • Identify process/production limitations and sources of waste in the process and define corrective actions
  • Conduct fan audits to assess efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Provide facts & data for evaluating system improvement opportunities
  • Assist with implementation of system improvements & projects
  • Contribute to optimization of plant fuel and power consumption and cost
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures / manuals for key manufacturing processes
  • Develop and present technical training
  • Facilitate trials and production of new products
  • Establish baseline & process limits (benchmarking) for major equipment
  • Provide expertise in environmental technologies and safe operation of equipment to ensure the business maintains its license to operate
  • Contribute to the safe operation of equipment by ensuring equipment alarm limits are properly set for critical parameters
  • Support plants with operation of equipment in a way to minimize emissions and within permit limits
  • Know the main impacts of lime plant operation on environment and the main available abatement technologies
  • Define together with the Regional Environmental Manager the process conditions which allow plants to comply with all current and future environmental regulations
  • Contribute to preparation of permit applications
  • Other duties as assigned
