Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • At least 2 years of medical billing experience are required.
  • Strong Epic Resolute billing experience is required.
  • The ability to work independently and within a team is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • The ability to communicate with internal peers and leadership is required.
  • The ability to learn and understand instruction is required.
  • The ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-volume atmosphere is required.
  • Microsoft Office and website knowledge are required.
Responsibilities
  • Resolve all levels of denials, including researching complicated denials and conducting outreach to determine resolution requirements.
  • Submit professional appeals with supporting documentation, including second-level appeals when necessary.
  • Identify payer trends among denying claims and work with leaders to mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with internal and external departments, including Coding, to resolve billing edits and denials.
  • Present appropriate accounts for payer agendas with clear rationale and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as a learning partner and mentor to peers.
  • Manage and complete assigned projects on time and present findings and process-improvement suggestions to leadership.
  • Document account actions in detailed notes for subsequent follow-up.
  • Navigate payer websites to obtain information and review payer policy guidelines and claim adjudication details.
  • Use Epic, OnBase, and other required platforms proficiently.
  • Run custom reports in Epic as required.
  • Work independently under time constraints and deadlines with minimal supervision, prioritize workload, and bring resolutions to management.
  • Meet daily and weekly productivity standards with acceptable quality-assurance results.
  • Present accounts that are not resolved through the normal dispute process for placement on payer agendas.
  • Identify and communicate payer trends negatively affecting accounts receivable.
  • Communicate timely and professionally with Patient Access, Coding, and other departments to resolve billing or follow-up challenges.
  • Identify department trends and propose solutions for management and participate in meetings to resolve them.
  • Own complicated accounts and mentor staff so they understand and identify the requirements for those accounts.
  • Suggest and collaborate with leadership on updates to policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Increase knowledge and efficiency within the department.
  • Increase contract knowledge and perform calculations on accounts while beginning collaboration with the Contract Variance Team.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • A CCS-Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Inpatient Coder, or Certified Outpatient Coder certification is preferred.
