- An associate degree in a healthcare-related field is required.
- A minimum of three years of experience in an acute care oncology setting is required.
- A minimum of two years of oncology finance experience in financial counseling, free medication programs, grants, and development funds is required.
- The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, manipulate objects with the hands and fingers, lift or move objects, hear normal conversation, see at near and far distances, distinguish colors and peripheral vision, perceive depth, reach above shoulder level, and occasionally stoop, bend, and crouch.
- Outreach all new patients through infusion and radiation daily activity reports, provide an introduction and overview of possible financial burdens associated with cancer care, and explain available supports to help reduce the financial burden.
- Assist appropriate patients and families in exploring options for financial assistance for medical services.
- Assist patients with optimizing insurance coverage, provide information about the Medicaid application process and Insurance Marketplace, and navigate patients during open enrollment season.
- Follow up with appropriate patients and families regarding financial assistance needs.
- Obtain necessary and updated insurance information for patients and run real-time eligibility checks.
- Answer questions or direct patients to appropriate staff members regarding insurance, billing, financial assistance, payment and payment plans, quotes, copayment assistance, insurance optimization, and insurance navigation.
- Meet with patients in person or by phone to discuss estimated therapy costs.
- Refer patients to third-party supportive services, including copayment assistance, free medication, replacement medication, and foundation funds, and complete the required documents by phone or in person.
- Submit claims for reimbursement from foundations and copayment cards for outstanding balances for hospital-based services, ensuring payments are posted to the correct hospital account record and line item for accurate payment posting and remaining patient balances.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility through real-time eligibility systems, Navient, Availity, or by calling the insurer.
- Work with infusion authorization staff and infusion pharmacy staff to ensure replacement or upfront medication is on track for upcoming infusion appointments.
- Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
- A bachelor's degree in social work or a healthcare-related field is preferred.
