Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is required, subject to the stated exceptions for certain previously hired registered nurses.
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
  • Current or compact registered nurse licensure in North Carolina is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Competence in Basic Life Support and any other specialized life-support requirements designated by the work area is required.
  • The role requires completion of pre-employment physical capacity testing.
  • Knowledge of the scope of practice for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed staff is required.
  • Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process is required.
  • The ability to assess the nursing needs of acutely and chronically ill patients and their families is required.
  • The ability to use computer systems and learn new software programs is required.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques for administering routine and special patient treatments is required.
  • Working knowledge of infection-control procedures and safety precautions is required.
  • Working knowledge of and completion of The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements is required.
  • The role requires the ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking and remain focused and organized.
Responsibilities
  • Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize each patient's plan of care based on baseline needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in delivering nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a patient group or entire unit when assigned.
  • Monitor the environment of care and initiate corrective action involving equipment and material resources.
  • Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and seek appropriate assistance or educational offerings for professional development.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Identify clinical or operational performance-improvement opportunities and participate in performance-improvement activities.
  • Record activities, document assessments, plans of care, interventions, evaluations, and re-evaluations of patient status.
  • Teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
  • Document and communicate pertinent information using computer or paper documentation tools.
  • Perform other duties incidental to the work described.
  • Work one night shift per week from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
