The Business Manager I may be responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling business administration functions such as accounting, human resources, logistics, materials management, data processing, safety, real estate, office and general services, camp management, warehousing, and finance at all organizational levels, including foreign and domestic field projects.
Responsibilities
- Performs work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques and procedures.
- This is a progressive position, usually either from this job family or the accounting job family.
- The highest business administration position on a small domestic project, responsible to the project manager, or an assistant in a subsidiary or large project, responsible to a member of the business administration job family.
- Demonstrates application of administrative and management principles, theories, and concepts and has a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Able to provide solutions to a wide range of problems and display the ability to coordinate the financial and administrative functions within the organization.
- Studies business methods to improve workflow, simplify reporting procedures, or implement cost reductions.
- Analyzes business practices such as record-keeping systems, personnel and budgetary requirements, and performance standards to create new systems or revise established procedures.
- Prepares and analyzes annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Prepares administrative directions outlining policy and procedures.
- Involved in the preparation of proposals.
- Selects, hires, trains, and assigns business administration staff for new projects.
- May take part in contract negotiations.
- Verifies and approves Labor charging reconciliation
- Establishes, directs, and maintains all business administration activities and procedures per company policies.
- Provides project and company management with financial and manpower information and forecasting.
- A critical aspect of this position’s function within a project is close liaison with such departments as the Controller, Human Resources, Materials Management, Equipment, Real Estate, etc.
- Hires personnel or negotiates agreements for management services such as security, maintenance, and groundskeeping.
- At the senior level, has overall responsibility for the business function of the group, including assisting project management in meeting administrative and financial responsibilities.
Minimum Knowledge
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting,
business administration, or demonstrated equivalent.
Experience: 5-7 years of professional experience.
Work Environment
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. The position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. The position may require travel.
