Zoox focuses on creating autonomous ride-hailing services designed specifically for urban transportation. Unlike other companies that modify existing vehicles for self-driving capabilities, Zoox builds its own vehicles from the ground up, optimizing them for safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort. Their vehicles are equipped with advanced sensors and AI systems that allow them to navigate complex city environments. Each vehicle features a spacious interior for up to four passengers and is fully electric, promoting sustainability by reducing emissions. Zoox prioritizes safety through rigorous testing and collaboration with regulatory bodies. Their ride-hailing platform uses data analytics to improve routing and enhance the user experience, making it easy for passengers to request rides and manage their accounts. The company's goal is to create smarter, safer, and more efficient transportation solutions that improve urban living.

Founded in 2014 and acquired by Amazon in 2020, Zoox is developing an autonomous vehicle designed from the ground up without a steering wheel or pedals.
The road to autonomous vehicles is long and arduous, and it has already taken one high-profile victim: GM’s Cruise. Elon Musk has been promising autonomy in Teslas for years. It’s still not here. Jesse Levinson, co-founder and CTO at Zoox, Amazon’s robotaxi subsidiary, will be the first to tell you that autonomy is very hard to do. “In the olden days of 20 years ago, AI wasn’t very popular, and most people thought it was a stupid thing to work on,” Levinson said. He thought inventing a car that could drive itself was “cool,” adding that “I was pretty convinced that someday in my lifetime, cars would drive themselves.”
In summer 2024, Zoox launched its fleet in Austin, making the capital city its fourth public testing site in the U.S.
