Requirements
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan required
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's in Nursing or Health Care Administration preferred
  • For Bronson South Haven Hospital: as of December 1, 2019, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required upon hire; any employee hired before this date must have an active nursing license and 3-5 years of progressively more responsible hospital experience
  • Bronson South Haven-specific certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support required upon hire; Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire; Hospital Incident Command courses IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCa and IS-700.a; NIH Stroke certification to be completed within 6 months of hire
  • Bronson Battle Creek requirements: Knowledge of stroke team responsibilities and ability to coordinate mixing and dosing of tissue plasminogen activator potentially implied by role
  • Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs for record keeping; ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment used in patient care
  • Must be able to work as a team member and communicate effectively with visitors, physicians, hospital personnel, and administrative staff; tact in handling sensitive matters
  • Physical requirements: standing or walking most of the shift, lifting light objects up to 20 pounds and assisting with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee hospital operations; provide administrative direction; resolve crises and conflicts; perform analysis, assessment and intervention for problems requiring immediate attention; inform department managers and directors of problems and resolutions
  • Investigate problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians, and staff; implement appropriate action and follow up
  • Serve as initial contact for atypical events; conduct initial assessment of events; initiate appropriate action and ensure patient stabilization; notify risk management, clinical service integration, and department managers
  • Assess hospital environment for safety concerns; take action as appropriate; attend Safety Check-In Meetings Monday through Friday; lead Safety Check-In Meetings on weekends and holidays
  • Coordinate placement of admissions and transfers; communicate with Bronson First to coordinate regional transfers; collaborate with physicians and Rapid Response for patient placement; monitor hospital capacity and throughput; implement hospital surge plans; provide hospital-wide occupancy communications; collaborate with Emergency Department physicians and charge nurse during high capacity
  • Lead Bed Planning Meetings (0400/1600); work with staffing office to ensure appropriate staff placement; assign or reassign staff to maintain safe and competent care; manage sitters placement
  • Coordinate communication with outside organizations, including other health care facilities, law enforcement, and media; involve public relations in media inquiries
  • Manage initial disaster, crisis, or emergency response; notify incident commander; coordinate activities until incident commander arrival; communicate bed availability to outside organizations
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures including Substance Abuse Policy; ensure testing when there is reasonable suspicion
  • Answer Employee Incident Hotline after hours, weekends, and holidays; provide initial triage and direct employees to the Emergency Room as appropriate; document calls; collaborate with Emergency Room physician for prophylactic treatment in case of exposure to communicable diseases
  • Identify bed bugs with Environmental Services management; coordinate notification and room sealing post-discharge
  • Conduct regular rounds of all hospital departments and units; monitor unit activity and patient care; mentor staff and advocate for patients
  • Oversee availability of supplies and equipment; provide direction during shortages; manage downtime for computers and monitoring equipment
  • Attend and lead multiple shift coordination and safety operations meetings; ensure hospital-wide safety and occupancy management

  • Disaster planning knowledge; NIH Stroke certification; Hospital Incident Command training IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCa, IS-700.a; Advanced Life Support competency; familiarity with hospital operations and patient flow; experience in hospital leadership roles; strong communication and crisis management skills
