Requirements
  • Strong videography skills or experience, including experience with video editing software packages.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated.
  • Ability to work creatively while staying on schedule.
  • Interest in the arts and in telling the stories of student musicians in the Cavalier Marching Band.
  • Interest in learning more about people.
  • Must be a University of Virginia undergraduate student.
  • Availability for 10–19 hours per week.
  • Must submit a resume including a link to past videography or photography work and projects.
Responsibilities
  • Attend gameday rehearsals and performances, including the pregame show, halftime show, and two quarters of the football game in Section 104.
  • Collaborate to create field show videos using audio and video recordings from multiple sources for publication on the Band’s YouTube Channel and Instagram account.
  • Record short, up-close clips of band members during gameday rehearsal at Carr’s Hill Field and coordinate coverage with other team members.
  • Record field shows from the upper deck on both sides of the stadium, centered on the 50-yard line, and record close-up shots on the field among band members.
  • Record two quarters from Section 104 and coordinate with team members to provide coverage for quarters one through four.
  • Record behind-the-scenes gameday moments, including bus rides, meals, Swag Surfing in the band room, the walk to the stadium, and the run through the tunnels before the pregame show.
  • Coordinate recording coverage at other performances, including Farmington Country Club, Paint the Town Orange, Seven Stars Music Festival, and an off-Grounds exhibition performance.
  • Create educational material for Cavalier Marching Band course use.
  • Work with the Social Media Committee, Visual Media Crew, and additional band directors.
  • Use the Cavalier Marching Band’s video and audio equipment for projects, including camcorders, microphones, wireless lavaliers, tripods, and a multicamera encoder and streamer.
