- Competence in dosage calculations.
- Knowledge of basic statistical concepts.
- Ability to respond to unusual or varied situations not covered by existing standards, procedures, or precedents.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, ascend and descend stairs, handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to frequently lift 25 pounds from floor to waist level and occasionally assist with moving adult patients.
- Close vision and the ability to focus clearly.
- Ability to use a stethoscope to assess breath, heart, bowel, and Korotkoff sounds.
Responsibilities
- Function within the scope of privileges granted by the medical staff and governing body.
- Work as part of the medical team in the rural health clinic and hospital or emergency department setting while following plans and policies.
- Provide services to nursing home patients as requested.
- Inform the health care team of patient-related issues and coordinate their resolution.
- Ensure compliance with Texas Medical Board standards, the Physician Assistant Collaborative Practice Policy or Agreement, and the approved delineation of privileges.
- Perform delegated medical functions, including history and physical examinations, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, working diagnoses, treatment plans, medication prescribing or ordering, monitoring therapeutic interventions, patient counseling and education, referrals, consultations, and preventive health services.
- Assist with hospital admissions, patient management, and discharges in conjunction with the attending physician.
- Provide 24-hour emergency room and hospital call as assigned or scheduled.
- Maintain accurate, consistent, and uniform patient medical records.
- Maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, nursing and allied health staff, medical staff, the clinic manager, and hospital departments.
- Represent the hospital and clinics positively in the community.
- Work with the Administrator regarding employment issues.
- Follow medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and standard operating policies and procedures of the rural health clinic and hospital.
- Implement and comply with department safety policies and procedures.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned or required.
Desired Qualifications
- A Master's degree or higher.
- Current certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate.
- Advanced Trauma Life Support certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certificate.
- Certification of Added Qualification in Emergency Medicine.
- Two to four years of experience in family medicine, acute care, or emergency medicine.
- Experience with computerized medical records systems and charting.
