Roles and Responsibilities:
Job Summary/Overview:
The VFD Technician takes the lead role for the site to keep the Variable Frequency Drives up and running to control rotating equipment across the site. They will be responsible for learning each of the brands and models for the VFD’s on site.
The site operations run 24/7 which requires this position to be available to support on-shift technicians with troubleshooting and respond to emergencies after normal working hours. The position is part of the maintenance team that consists of Network, Generator, and Protection Relay technicians.
This is a full-time position 1st shift that works 6:00am to 3:00pm M-F. OT as required by project or site needs.
Specific Job Duties:
o Work with engineering team to develop specifications for VFD’s so they fit the appropriate application and fits in the appropriate environment
o Perform Preventative and Corrective maintenance on VFD Equipment.
o QA/QC and commission new VFD equipment upon installation for initial start-up; also perform upgrades and replacements.
o Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects or the need for adjustment and repair, and to ensure compliance with NEC and job site specifications.
o Interpret blueprints and schematics.
o Work from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, inside cleanrooms, high noise areas or hot environments to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
o Perform troubleshooting of relay controls, variable frequency drives (VFD), and motor control centers.
o Use CMMS to track repairs, parts inventory, and preventive maintenance.
o Establish and write policies, procedures and guidelines for plant operations and maintenance
o Able to work well in team environment, mentoring/training others, and effectively communicate throughout the organization (engineers, technicians, management, customers).
o Troubleshooting: Responds to equipment and system failures and utilizes structured problem solving and troubleshooting techniques to make necessary adjustments to return normal operational status.
o Knowledge or PC Software to load and diagnose issue within the VFD Range
Shift: 1st (6am-3pm)
Skills and Qualifications:
Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required
• High School Diploma or GED is required; with some college or trade school preferred, apprentice work/study program is a positive.
• 5 years’ experience working with motor controls, PLC’s and an array of VFD types.
• Training in Electronics.
• Specialized training from multiple VFD Manufactures is a Plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools
• Strong knowledge of the NEC 70E code as it applies to industrial installations.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution system and single line diagrams.
• Knowledge of standard practices of the Electrical trade.
• Prefer OSHA 30 training.
• Experience and training in the use of meters to read Voltage, Current (Amps).
