Requirements
  • A PhD and/or postdoctoral training in cardiac biology, cardiac physiology, or a related field, or equivalent four-plus years of industry experience leading end-to-end research projects.
  • Extensive hands-on experience independently running studies in rodent models of cardiovascular disease in an academic or industry setting.
  • Proficiency in rodent echocardiography, including conventional short-axis and auto-LV techniques.
  • Proficiency in invasive hemodynamics such as pressure-volume loops.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to work.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment.
  • Alignment with target validation and drug discovery and enjoyment of small-animal physiology work.
Responsibilities
  • Drive preclinical validation of novel therapeutic targets for heart failure, including heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
  • Lead advanced in vivo heart-failure rodent studies.
  • Perform and interpret advanced physiological analyses for therapeutic efficacy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to turn screening hits into high-confidence drug-discovery programs.
  • Demonstrate echo image acquisition and analysis mastery and efficiency.
  • Execute large target-validation cohorts, including echocardiography and weekly logistical in vivo assays.
  • Perform rat echocardiography, advanced dosing, blood draws, and rat invasive hemodynamics.
  • Complete model studies and target validation and launch additional validation studies for the heart-failure-with-preserved-ejection-fraction program.
  • Drive end-to-end target-development programs, including small-molecule proof-of-concept studies and strategic partner collaborations.
  • Author and maintain rigorous Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee protocols.
Desired Qualifications
  • Apical four-chamber echocardiography, mitral-valve inflow, and tissue Doppler experience.
  • Direct experience in early-stage drug development for cardiometabolic or cardiovascular diseases.
  • Experience with intraperitoneal, oral, subcutaneous, and intravenous dosing routes and blood-collection methods.
  • Deep mechanistic understanding of cardiovascular biology supported by a peer-reviewed publication record.
  • Experience performing rodent survival surgeries.
  • Familiarity with downstream molecular analysis such as quantitative polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, or histology for evaluating target engagement.
  • Familiarity with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or cardiac amyloidosis disease models.
  • Experience with tail-cuff blood pressure, exercise-tolerance treadmill testing, tissue sectioning, or isolating primary cardiomyocytes.
