Requirements
  • At least 12 years of experience in growth, performance marketing, or LiveOps, including at least 5 years leading multi-team organizations with managers reporting in.
  • Experience owning both paid acquisition and in-app monetization or lifecycle for a consumer product with a real-money, wallet, or transactional economy.
  • Experience running a LiveOps or events/offers function at scale across multiple titles or surfaces, with per-title ownership.
  • Experience building or rebuilding a lifecycle/CRM function using email, push, and in-app channels with holdout-based incrementality measurement.
  • Experience using CleverTap, Braze, Iterable, or an equivalent platform.
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar media budgets across networks, maintaining network-level relationships, and reallocating spend based on incrementality rather than last-click attribution.
  • Ability to operate in an organization undergoing restructuring, with a distributed India–US team and an analytics function that independently evaluates performance.
Responsibilities
  • Own both the Growth and LiveOps organizations for the Skillz Platform, with accountability for demand generation and the in-app economy of events, offers, and messaging.
  • Lead Performance Marketing/User Acquisition through the Head of Performance, as well as Organic, App Store Optimization/Cost Per Purchase, and Creative, allocating spend across networks, games, and surfaces against customer-acquisition-cost-to-stable and stable-lifetime-value metrics.
  • Own the LiveOps operating model, including per-game events, promotions, and offer slates across Solitaire Skillz, Blackout Bingo, Dominoes Gold, and Arena, with a dedicated owner per surface.
  • Own Lifecycle Customer Relationship Management and reactivation across email, push notifications, and in-app messaging, measured using holdout-audited incremental net gaming revenue per campaign.
  • Own the incentive and offer economy, including deposit-bonusing rules, limited-time-offer design, trophies, league support, and the live-event program, while maintaining effective rake within the agreed band across cohorts.
  • Instrument owned channels with click-through-rate measurement, deliverability controls, opt-out guardrails, and campaign-to-venue routing so cadence and creative decisions are measured trade-offs.
  • Partner with Product, Analytics, Engineering, Customer Experience and VIP, Brand, and Financial Planning and Analysis leaders, and represent Growth and LiveOps in quarterly planning, monthly and quarterly business reviews, and the weekly operating cadence.
  • Hire, develop, and retain the function and build the leadership layer to reduce single-person execution risk.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with real-money gaming, fintech, online gambling, or mid-core free-to-play products with a deep economy is strongly preferred.

Papaya Gaming ordered to pay $719M to Skillz for faking competition with bots

A US federal court has ordered Papaya Gaming to pay $719 million to Skillz Platform Inc., a subsidiary of Firy Inc. (NYSE: FIRY), in a false advertising case. The disgorgement represents Papaya's unjust profits and replaces the $420 million in actual damages awarded by a jury in April 2026. The court found that Papaya used bots to falsely advertise prize money between 2021 and 2024. Evidence showed that approximately 70% of $6.7 billion in advertised prizes, roughly $4.7 billion, was never paid to customers because Papaya's bots won instead. Papaya deployed more than 13 million bot participants compared to roughly 11 million real human players. The court also awarded Skillz approximately $10 million in legal fees. Papaya's post-trial motions challenging the verdict were denied. The original jury verdict was the largest false advertising award in US history under the Lanham Act.

Paying monthly active users fell 9% quarter-over-quarter to 128,000, whilst average revenue per paying user increased 7%. The company secured a major legal victory against Papaya Gaming, with a jury awarding $420 million in damages for false advertising. Skillz ended the quarter with $185 million in cash and faces $130 million of debt due by year-end.
