  • Six months to one year of Anesthesia Technologist experience

Responsibilities
  • Sets up an anesthetizing location with required equipment and supplies according to the type of cases and ages of the patients, consulting with Anesthesiologist or CRNA for specific setup needs as necessary or requested.
  • Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits; delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed; sets up intravenous solutions, transducers, medical pump tubing and all required equipment for cardiac monitoring; performs leak testing, calibration, replaces oxygen sensors and flow sensors of anesthesia machines; provides troubleshooting and service corrections; changes tanks on machines and carbon dioxide absorbent canisters as needed; cleans anesthesia machines and other anesthesia equipment after each case to meet operating room target times.
  • Prepares blood pressure transducers and calibrates them to the appropriate machine; sets up IV solutions and IV infusions; demonstrates proficiency with functionality of various hemodynamic monitoring systems; performs cardiac output injectate process and reports numeric to the provider; enters all patient data for calculations; follows calibration sequence for SVO2 catheters; demonstrates proper setup of non-invasive cardiac output monitoring systems entering all data and aseptically assembling kit.
  • Assists the Anesthesia staff in the set up and initialization of hemodynamic monitoring equipment including arterial lines, central venous catheters, PA catheters, TEE; assists anesthesia providers with arterial line and central line placement; follows proper patient sterile prep procedures, opens kits using sterile technique; calibrates equipment such as Arterial, Central line and PA transducers ensures correct labeling and monitor profiles; demonstrates ability to aseptically connect pulmonary artery catheter and assist with placement of the PAC; sets up and prepares TEE machine for patient use.
  • Assists Anesthesiologists in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia including transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table, attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment, positioning, assisting with endotracheal intubations or awake intubation, assists with airway management and equipment setup
  • Tests, sets up, maintains sterile technique and processes autologous blood products for reinfusion; packages, labels and reports to the Anesthesiologist the volume, estimated blood loss and returned processed unit volume
  • Sets up and primes rapid infuser systems and maintains aseptic technique
  • Draws blood from lines for labs for laboratory analysis in accordance with established protocols for cardiac and hepatic cases
  • Sets up and prepares Anesthesia machines for malignant hyperthermia cases, installs appropriate filters, replaces absorbent, removes vaporizers, runs ventilator at appropriate settings for recommended period of time
  • Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs on anesthesia equipment
  • Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in operating room during use, repairing or replacing as necessary
  • Maintains yearly competency with High Level Disinfection processes and follows all regulations; applies to processing of Trans Esophageal Echo probes; understands all components and quality control aspects
  • Participates fully in call rotation to provide technical support for anesthesia services after hours and on weekends/holidays
  • Complies with all Beth Israel Lahey Health policies and behavioral expectations; maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients; understands job description and performance expectations; participates in quality improvement activities and mandatory education; performs other duties as needed to meet department needs
