Requirements
  • Licensed to work as an Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the Missouri Division of Professional Registration or a Compact State license; in states where applicable (Illinois, Oklahoma, Wisconsin) as applicable per work location.
  • The position requires current licensure and ongoing certification maintenance as described (including but not limited to Basic Life Support, Ethics training, annual competency, age/population specific competency, and other annual mandatory requirements).
  • State-specific RN licensure requirements for Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin as listed (including compact state recognition).
  • Must meet minimum professional licensure and/or certification requirements for practicing nursing in the relevant state(s).
Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment, including age-appropriate admission transfer assessment and documentation of findings.
  • Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols and standards of care; identifies short and long term goals and formulates nursing interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status; collaborates with health team members for coordination of daily plan of care; administers and documents medications according to policies and procedures; monitors and documents IV fluids and parenteral nutrition; completes referrals; requests consultations; provides patient/family education and discharge planning; clarifies and implements physician orders timely; assists physician with procedures; uses readback for telephone/verbal orders; recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate nursing actions; involves family/guardian in care decisions; adheres to infection control practices.
  • Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition; evaluates effectiveness of care and patient/family education; reports significant changes to physician; identifies problems and seeks resolutions; reports variations from care/treatment as per policy.
  • Provides specialized care to high-risk patients including restraint care with alternatives to restraint when possible, monitors restraint periods, and ensures proper documentation; pain management incorporating patient beliefs and family involvement; abuse assessment and reporting.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional practice by adhering to quality standards, maintaining currency in hospital/unit information, attending staff meetings, and participating in governance structures; supports changes in work demands; maintains professional relationships with coworkers; provides effective handoff reports; delegates appropriately; communicates plan of care clearly.
  • Maintains safety and infection control standards; follows standard precautions; maintains a safe environment; reports risk management concerns; completes annual mandatory training and certifications; adheres to dress code and safe patient handling; adheres to policies for changes in care during emergencies.
  • Delivers service excellence by providing timely, high-quality, courteous care; effectively communicates and maintains confidentiality; collaborates and shares knowledge to ensure continuity of care; uses resources efficiently and supports practice improvement.
  • Incorporates performance improvement and evidence-based practice into professional practice; participates in unit goals, performance improvement processes, data collection, and nursing research as applicable; participates in department and hospital performance improvement activities; contributes to nursing quality indicators and occurrence reviews.
  • Provides age-appropriate care including knowledge of normal growth and development, assessing age-specific data, involving family in decision-making, and delivering services for age groups routinely served; cost-effective service delivery by efficient resource use and documentation of chargeable supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and complies with organizational policies.
