Responsibilities
  • Provides on-site support of proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices, including diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, upgrades, repair, installation and commissioning
  • Installs and upgrades a wide range of complex and advanced company products according to technical documentation and company guidelines to ensure that customer’s equipment operates efficiently
  • Checks out and approves operational quality of system equipment
  • Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of the system
  • Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; interprets customers’ needs and clarifies if the responsibility for problem resolution falls to second level support or management
  • Demonstrates to customer equipment operation and specification according to Customer Acceptance Procedure and Customer Technical Bulletins
  • Understanding of the clinical routines to be able to professionally work with the customer to support patient treatment
  • May coordinate and review the activities of a small group of Installation Representatives and Subcontractors
  • Works in cooperation with other expert company resources to assist in performing installation, upgrade, troubleshooting activities as well as service activities
  • Works within a compact team of site engineers, monitoring all aspects of the proton therapy system
  • Fulfills special client’s requirements when in place, following company’s procedures and politics
  • Performs maintenance of the system in accordance with Preventive Maintenance Plan and Maintenance Instructions
  • Performs necessary upgrades of the system in accordance with Service Technical Bulletins, as needed
  • Proactively monitors condition of the system and escalates to site management and/or 2nd level support if abnormal operation/trends are identified
  • Provides field service reports about executed tasks in Unity system, using defined company standards
  • Follows all applicable company instructions, requirements and policies
  • Follows both company and local safety policies
  • Maintains device history records regarding operating characteristics, design factors, technical performance, and development of products to improve installation efficiency
  • Performs parts inventory and ordering for assigned installation, including replenishing spare parts kit, short shipment and return consigned parts appropriately and in a timely manner per procedure as necessary for each install
  • During Installations and Upgrade activities: Conduct the Acceptance Conditions testing, to ensure that all installation conditions will be met according to schedule and that customers can sign the Acceptance Letters
  • Performs other duties as assigned by site general manager or field service engineer lead
  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations
  • Take lead role when working with newer and less experienced colleagues, shares knowledge
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP and PDM products and productivity software
  • Experience in servicing or manufacturing of medical devices with conforming ISO13485 standard
  • Knowledge of local language
  • May be required to specialize in specific technical areas and have a solid level of cross-functional and overall system knowledge
  • Establish and maintain a network to second level Support Team

Varian TrueBeam gets FDA clearance for low-dose radiotherapy to treat osteoarthritis

Siemens Healthineers has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its Varian TrueBeam radiotherapy systems to treat medically refractory osteoarthritis in adults using low-dose radiation therapy. This marks the first expansion of Varian's radiotherapy platform beyond cancer care into chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Osteoarthritis affects over 33 million adults in the US and approximately 600 million globally. The clearance covers TrueBeam, TrueBeam STx, VitalBeam and Edge systems, offering patients with persistent pain a non-invasive outpatient treatment option that targets inflammation, reduces pain and improves joint function. The approval builds on Varian's previous regulatory clearances for non-oncological indications, including radiosurgery treatment for medically refractory essential tremor. The TrueBeam platform combines high-resolution imaging with precise dose control whilst maintaining streamlined clinical workflows.

Telix Pharmaceuticals and Siemens Healthineers' company Varian have agreed to develop novel clinical applications that combine Telix's theranostics products and Varian's external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) technology. The first area of focus will be in identifying opportunities to use Telix's prostate cancer PET imaging agents in selecting patients for EBRT, developing personalized treatment plans (particularly in the context of Varian's Ethos adaptive radiotherapy system), and monitoring responses to treatment, Telix said. The agreement supports both company-sponsored and investigator-led clinical studies.
