Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, specifically civil or structural engineering, with at least 2 years of bridge engineering experience.
  • The ability to become a licensed engineer qualified to practice structural engineering for bridge design in the state of primary practice within two years of hire.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
  • The ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
  • The ability to regularly work outdoors, lift and move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds, and stand and walk for prolonged periods when required.
  • The ability to work required hours in the office or offsite.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key project team member on bridge and structural projects from the preliminary phase through design and construction.
  • Independently perform bridge engineering calculations, analysis, and design tasks.
  • Independently write technical specifications, reports, and correspondence for varied audiences.
  • Independently assemble plans for agencies as required to meet applicable standards.
  • Independently check the design work of other team members.
  • Work with technicians to assemble complete and accurate engineering plans.
  • Meet deadlines and complete projects within given timeframes.
  • Apply design standards related to the bridge industry.
  • Assist project managers and market leaders with technical proposals for project pursuits.
  • Participate in project meetings, informational meetings, construction notifications, and related settings.
  • Make independent decisions and rational judgment calls.
  • Follow the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with attention to detail.
  • Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs as developed with the supervisor.
  • Travel and stay out of town when required, and work overtime during submittal deadlines.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with transportation projects and public agencies in Minnesota and North Dakota.
  • Experience with in-service bridge inspection.
