Responsibilities
  • Work alongside the Executive Director on key donor relationships, including stewarding them, but also strategizing on how to deepen impact in time, talent, and treasure.
  • Work alongside the Executive Director on mid-to-large corporate prospecting, sales process, and onboarding. This will include assisting with the management of the Top 25 Prospect List and providing first-class service when bringing a new company into the Greater Houston Division.
  • Have the principal responsibility of securely positioning the Division for bold growth in unrestricted revenue on an increasing and sustainable basis through building a dynamic development staff and volunteer leadership talent and capabilities.
  • Have a “Drive for Results” mentality that not only pushes themselves but others as well.
  • Coach and lead (4) staff (Assistant Vice President (AVP) Heart Walk, AVP Go Red For Women, and AVP Heart Ball and Development Director, Impact Campaigns) who lead approximately nine development and support staff.
  • Must quickly be able to learn existing donor relationships and partner with the team to deepen and grow in financial and volunteer impact.
  • Lead from a position of collaboration across campaigns, with the best interest of the donor as the top priority, encompassing a “One Voice” mentality.
  • Will aggressively work with the team on new company growth and development, both in revenue and leadership engagement/recruitment.
  • Partner and continually build a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission of the Association. Through campaign voluntary leadership, help provide timely direction, a framework, and resources for volunteers to achieve campaign goals.
  • Provide staff with leadership direction on setting dream goals. After setting those visionary goals, the VP must celebrate successes and hold each campaign team accountable for their goals and activities to ensure they are achieved.
  • Foster a professional work environment that promotes and values collaboration, trust, teamwork, empowerment, and integrity, where communication is open, staff celebrate each other’s successes, and problems are identified and quickly resolved.
  • Work with the Executive Director and campaign leads to maintain a minimum of three (3) years of “transformational” Chairs for each campaign and its events, therefore growing the division's revenue and volunteer engagement.
  • Partner with Southwest Region and National Center resources to provide management expertise, coaching, and monitoring for fundraising events to ensure the aggressive growth of events and focused year-round attention by monitoring internal reports and management of development staff.
  • Work with direct reports and Marketing/Communications event staff to ensure direct and indirect campaign expenses are within the approved budget.
  • The VP will meet weekly with the market Executive Director and report on: Individual campaigns status, Individual campaign pipeline management, Strategies for growth with current donors, Strategic input on larger, multi-year asks for prospects, Individual campaign leadership succession, volunteer utilization, Development staff successes and opportunities, Any HR items with development staff

SimpliFed raises $10.8M Series A to expand virtual maternal health platform from lactation to full OB care

SimpliFed, a virtual maternal healthcare platform, has raised $10.8 million in an oversubscribed Series A round led by Morningside and Hesperia Capital. Foreground Capital and existing investors including AHA Social Impact Fund and Elizabeth Street Ventures participated. The company, which provides virtual breastfeeding and baby feeding support, is expanding into virtual OB services to offer prenatal and postpartum care for low-risk patients. SimpliFed connects families with certified lactation consultants and maternal health providers through telehealth visits, integrating with major electronic medical record systems. SimpliFed is on track to serve 5% of all US births in 2026 and is in network with major commercial health plans and Medicaid across several states. The funding will support growth of its Maternal Health Operating System and partnerships with health systems and OBGYN clinics.

New $20M effort aims to address critical gaps in care for people with single ventricle heart disease. The American Heart Association and Additional Ventures develop program focused on improving long-term health for people living with Fontan circulation DALLAS, March 30, 2026 - The lifesaving surgery used to treat children with single ventricle heart disease, the Fontan procedure, can pose serious health complications throughout life. The American Heart Association, devoted to changing the future to a world of healthier lives for all and Additional Ventures, a research foundation working toward a cure for single ventricle heart disease, have committed a combined $20M to advance a coordinated, collaborative approach to improving the ability to predict, prevent and treat health complications in people living with Fontan circulation. Single ventricle heart disease affects about 6 in 10,0000 babies born in the US each year[1]. These children are born with only one working heart pump and must rely on a surgically created circulation (the Fontan circulation) to reroute blood through the body. While lifesaving, this circulation places long-term strain on the body and can lead to progressive damage across multiple organs. Today, clinicians lack reliable ways to monitor Fontan health, making them unable to detect early signs of decline. As a result, many patients appear stable until they suddenly experience severe complications that can be fatal or severely impact quality of life. The program will bring together clinicians, researchers and patients to generate scientific and clinical insights and develop tools to better guide care for people living with Fontan circulation. The program combines the strength of the American Heart Association's research infrastructure, guideline development, data coordination and registry science with Additional Ventures' leadership in single ventricle strategy, deep scientific expertise and unparalleled network across the single ventricle heart disease ecosystem. "People with Fontan circulation often develop complications with other organs in the body including the liver, kidneys and lungs," said Mariell Jessup, M.D., FAHA, chief medical and science officer of the American Heart Association. "The coordination between our two organizations will generate data and insight that can help patients and clinicians better monitor their health and intervene earlier."
