  • Provide guidance to the LEO and T&S teams on Snap policies and laws governing the disclosure of user data to governmental entities and third parties, and work with the LEO team to respond to requests for user data
  • Engage with government authorities on matters related to Snap's response to law enforcement requests
  • Advise the T&S team in matters relating to the enforcement of Snap's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, including legal, privacy, and security issues surrounding Snap's response to violations. Collaborating with the T&S team on investigation of Community Guidelines violations and advising regarding potential referrals to law enforcement
  • Collaborate with Policy, Engineering, and others in Legal to develop and implement policies and practices that protect user data while aligning with legal obligations requiring the disclosure of user data
  • Collaborate with and support the Policy team on legislative developments impacting Snap's law enforcement and data disclosure obligations
  • Collaborate with Security and Privacy Engineering to develop tools to protect user privacy while meeting legal disclosure requirements
  • Advise teams across the company -- including Policy, Product, Engineering, and others in Legal -- regarding developments in surveillance and security laws
  • Support the Policy and LEO teams in their development of strategic external partner relationships, e.g., with NGOs, regulators, and other government agencies
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional experience interpreting laws related to government surveillance (such as the U.K.'s Investigatory Powers Act 2016 and/or legal demands pursuant to the French Code of Criminal Procedure). Professional experience with the U.S. Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register Act, or the U.S. CLOUD Act is a plus, as is familiarity with data protection laws, such as GDPR
  • Experience as a prosecutor or other relevant government experience, or experience as in-house and/or outside counsel advising technology companies on law enforcement response, trust and safety, and related matters
  • Fluency in French
