Requirements
  • Must have four-year degree in financial planning, finance, wealth management, math or a related field. Existing licenses, designations, experience, or coursework in investments, trust and estate planning, wealth management or a related area (in addition to a high school diploma or GED) may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • If unlicensed or partially licensed at the time of hire, must obtain the following within 6 months of registration with FINRA: Life insurance license; Investment licenses (SIE/Series 6/63/65 OR SIE/Series 7/66)
  • If hired primarily to be a trust representative, in lieu of investment licenses, must have: Life insurance license; ATFA (Accredited Trust Fiduciary Advisor) certification or be eligible to quickly obtain.
  • Must maintain all required licenses after obtaining them and satisfy all continuing education requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must develop and demonstrate excellent critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and good judgment.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must possess an aptitude for meeting people, developing member confidence, respect of members and co-workers, trust in Credit Union.

Responsibilities
  • Develop or increase proficiency in meeting members’ needs in the areas of life insurance, investments, trust services, estate planning and retirement planning. This includes explaining products and services, writing policies, opening new accounts and setting Estate Planning Essentials appointments or making an outside attorney referral.
  • Develops a good understanding of all FAS solutions to coordinate and engage with other specialists as needed obtain assistance with complex scenarios and ensure member needs are being met holistically.
  • Effectively works referrals to ensure members are connected with a qualified FAS employee.
  • Frequently communicates with management about activities and results within assigned area.
  • Develops a strong understanding of each platform’s products, services, policies, requirements and open new accounts / place new business effectively in light of those requirements.
  • Must develop a strong understanding and be able to navigate effectively in SECU operational systems, life insurance software, NetX 360, Envestnet and new systems as introduced in the future.
  • Utilize SECU technology, marketing campaigns, lead platforms, referrals and/or member branch visits to achieve daily activity levels that align with insurance productivity benchmarks as communicated by management.
  • Comply with all Credit Union policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all member information remains confidential and members’ accounts are accessed for business purposes only.
  • Follow all security and control procedures.
  • Greet and assist members in a courteous, professional, and timely manner through all service channels – in-person, phone, and digital communication.
  • Actively work with mentor and management team to strengthen proficiency in member service delivery.
  • Ensure that proper identification of members is taking place and all actions are compliant with SECU’s Member Information Security Procedure (MISP).
  • Willing to assist in other areas of the operation as needed.
  • Professionally interact with other departments to facilitate member requests.
  • Must maintain acceptable performance level based on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and achieve and maintain standards as directed by management.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
  • Soft skills and call quality must be maintained at an acceptable level.
  • Specialists in the FAS Contact Center must develop a strong understanding of CXOne platform and be available in member-facing phone skill sets as determined by management.
  • Maintain a current and comprehensive knowledge of credit union products and services and possess an ability to provide quality referrals.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude toward members and teammates while maintaining professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Complete all required quarterly training courses, continuing education & other training assigned by management.
  • Have completed, or complete promptly upon hiring, all of the following courses of the SECU Module Program with passing score on the corresponding examinations: Member Eligibility, Money Market Share Accounts (MMSA), NCUA Coverage, SECU Online Services, SECU Policies Overview, Share Accounts, Tax-Advantaged Accounts, We Are SECU!, Account Research in OnBase, Account Titling & Designations, Estate Basics, Financial Advisory Services (FAS) Overview, Life Stage, MARGO Platform, MARGO Teller, Member Identification, Relationship Manager, SECU’s Member Facing Websites, Share Term Certificates, U.S. Savings Bonds

SECU partnership helps South Piedmont students stay on track and build financial confidence. Balancing classes, work, and finances is one of the biggest challenges college students face. Thanks to a partnership between South Piedmont Community College and State Employees' Credit Union (SECU), South Piedmont Community College is helping students ease that burden through scholarships, financial education, and resources designed to support success both in college and beyond. Through SECU's support, South Piedmont students have access to scholarships that help cover educational costs and reduce financial stress. The People Helping People Scholarship supports students pursuing associate degrees, while the Bridge to Career Scholarship assists students working toward certificates and workforce credentials. These scholarships help students stay enrolled, focus on their coursework, and move closer to their career goals. "SECU's support truly makes a difference for our students," said Coordinator of Financial Aid Programs Tammi Smith. "Through scholarships like People Helping People and Bridge to Career, students are able to focus on their education instead of worrying about financial obstacles. Through the SECU Foundation's Mission Development Grant Program, MHCDC will have the opportunity to strengthen internal capacity, expand its reach, and continue building sustainable pathways toward housing stability and economic empowerment. The SECU Foundation's Mission Development Grant Program is designed to provide capacity building assistance to organizations committed to serving North Carolina communities. The grant supports institutional assessments, leadership coaching, and strategic development in key areas essential for growth and long-term impact. Launched as a pilot initiative in April 2017, the program originally provided up to five grants of $40,000 each over a three-year period. On Thursday, September 18th and Tuesday, September 23rd, Metropolitan Housing & Community Development Corporation had the privilege of partnering with Beaufort County Community College (BCCC) to bring Financial Literacy and Wellness education directly to GED students. Over two days, Karrissa Sutton, Housing Counseling Program Manager & HUD-Certified Housing Counselor, and Julius Oden, Housing Counselor, led a four-hour class designed to equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to build financial stability and prepare for long-term success. On September 9, 2025, I attended the Re-entry Simulation hosted by Trillium in Martin County. What I thought would be a structured exercise quickly became one of the most eye-opening and impactful experiences I have had in understanding the struggles faced by individuals re-entering society after incarceration. The event began with powerful insights from Judge Regina Parker, Chief District Court Judge for District 2, and Jeron Randall, Reentry Coordinator, who spoke about the systemic challenges justice-involved individuals encounter immediately after release. Their remarks set the tone for the simulation, preparing Metroprop for the weight of the choices Metroprop would soon face. I was handed a packet that represented the life of someone just released. In it, I learned whether I had identification, housing, or education, along with a list of my release obligations such as rent, child support, probation check-ins, and mandatory drug screenings. To make things more difficult, I drew a "wild card" that simulated a learning impairment, making it harder to understand key instructions. Others received cards tied to mental health conditions or addiction recovery, each adding another layer of challenge. From Development to Management - Metropolitan Serves with Purpose.

Secu Foundation Awards $500,000 Grant For Expansion Of Community Crossroads Center In Pitt County

GREENVILLE, N.C., Jan. 09, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Community Crossroads Center (CCC) has been awarded a $500,000 challenge grant by SECU Foundation to help expand its campus in Pitt County. The construction of a new Homeless Resource Center and renovation of CCC's current facility will enable the non-profit to increase shelter space and comprehensive services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Established in 1987, CCC provides safe housing, meals, and supportive services to individuals in need. CCC's current space constraints have resulted in long waitlists, hindering the non-profit's ability to provide critical resources amid increased demand for services. SECU Foundation assisted CCC in 2014 with an interest-free construction loan through the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to build its current shelter
