- A Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, or Certificate in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field; additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
- One to two years of experience in an HSE or safety role is required.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, computers, and smartphones is required.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial business are required.
- A valid driver's license and insurability under company policy are required.
- Ability to understand, follow, and draft standard operating procedures for equipment operation is required.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills are required.
- Ability to take a coaching approach to safety with service technicians is required.
- Ability to coordinate safety improvements from start to finish is required.
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and sit, stand, and type at a computer for extended periods is required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain ownership and responsibility for existing HSE program initiatives and improvements.
- Evaluate, identify, recommend, source, communicate, trial, train managers and employees, update policy, and audit HSE initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policy and implement new policy as needed.
- Create standard operating procedures for equipment and operational tasks, including equipment operation and safety compliance.
- Track and record technicians' safety and refresher training and drug testing, schedule required training and testing, and research vendors for additional safety training.
- Conduct audits of service-yard and customer drill-site work, evaluate safe work practices and equipment condition, document audits, provide technician coaching and feedback, and conduct risk assessments for management.
- Review service technicians' job safety analyses and provide coaching and feedback on completion.
- Prepare and run weekly virtual safety tailgates on relevant safety topics.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, Cal-OSHA, and other applicable governing agencies, and develop, write, and implement policies, procedures, and programs for local, state, and federal regulatory compliance.
- Maintain environmental compliance, including direction and practical support for compliant fluid waste disposal.
- Respond to emergency or after-hours HSE calls and provide incident management support.
- Lead investigations of safety and environmental incidents, apply root cause analysis, recommend corrective actions, document findings, and track action items through completion.
- Edit and update the written company safety manual and policies and lead change management for safety policy and practice updates.
- Provide guidance and issue appropriate safety supplies and consumables for service yards and field service.
- Notify management of concerns regarding compliance with customer safety requirements.
- Ensure service technicians use safe driving techniques, receive retraining when necessary, and properly inspect vehicles for roadworthiness.
- Maintain compliant status on customer safety platforms and track upcoming due dates.
- Coordinate documentation of the Short Service Employee program with operations leadership.
- Maintain current electrical training and the electrical manual, and ensure technicians follow electrical restrictions and use appropriate personal protective equipment and tools.
- Travel to drilling rig job sites to audit employee safety compliance and provide coaching.
- Follow travel safety policies and maintain situational awareness.
