Requirements
  • Must hold a valid registered nurse license for at least one year.
  • Must complete an electrocardiogram class within 90 days of hire.
  • Must hold valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Basic Life Support certifications.
  • Must administer conscious sedation in accordance with the Mississippi Board of Nursing position statement.
  • Must be able to care for critically ill patients, including managing central lines and arterial lines.
  • Must be able to handle endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography wires and catheters, maintain aseptic technique, maintain a sterile field during sterile procedures, and remain competent with equipment used in emergent endoscopic procedures.
  • Must meet the physical and environmental demands of the role, including frequent lifting and carrying of more than 100 pounds and exposure to biohazardous conditions and potentially dangerous equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Admit endoscopy patients, assess their history, medications, laboratory results, and vital signs, and start intravenous lines to facilitate sedation medication.
  • Triage inpatients for endoscopic procedures based on severity of illness.
  • Provide and assist with care for critical and non-critical patients undergoing diagnostic and specialized endoscopic procedures, including sedation and post-procedure recovery.
  • Assist physicians with interventional procedures, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, endoscopic ultrasound, endobronchial ultrasound, navigational bronchoscopy, and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placements.
  • Monitor patients during phases I and II of recovery, including post-procedure vital signs, adverse reactions, and readiness for discharge.
  • Educate patients and families about pre-procedure and post-procedure care.
  • Provide call coverage at night, on weekends, and on holidays.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of critical care, cardiac, emergency room, or endoscopy experience is preferred.
  • Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse certification is preferred.
