Rocksteady Studios is an award-winning, critically acclaimed video game developer. Founded in 2004, we are home to the widely celebrated Batman: Arkham series of games. Our philosophy for game development is all about treating people well to create quality entertainment that stands the test of time. We’re a one-project studio that built our success by combining genre-defining gameplay and character-driven cinematic narrative with AAA production values. Born in the heart of London, our multicultural team takes inspiration from the culture and history of our home in one of the most diverse cities in the world.
The Lead Player Programmer role involves leading, supporting and providing
guidance to one of our teams of experienced programmers, and in collaboration
with other disciplines, enabling them to deliver the highest quality game
experience for our players. You’ll also be applying your technical expertise
directly by writing code, architecting systems, and resolving complex and
challenging issues.
The focus for your team will vary according to the needs of our projects, for
example it may include playable characters, combat, animation code, and other
more diverse gameplay areas.
Responsibilities
- Leading, supporting and guiding a team of experienced player/gameplay programmers, and being their line manager
- Developing the vision and architectural design for characters, controls and
camera - Overseeing development, organisation and delivery of your team’s work
- Working with Production to ensure success in hitting our timelines through
effective short- and long-term planning - Hands-on development and support of gameplay features and systems
- Working closely with Design giving constructive and proactive input on the
design of new features and the iteration of existing ones - Identifying and resolving technical risks before they impact development
or content creation schedules - Providing your team with vision and direction to increase their
effectiveness, improve code reliability, and manage tech debt - Collaborating closely with team members from all disciplines,
communicating technical concepts and requirements, and facilitating
smooth workflows - Leading by example in development best practices and helping to
continuously improve our development environment - Engaging in hiring for your team as needed
Requirements
- A high level of technical ability, including with C++
- Professional games development experience writing a variety of game code
- Experience across multiple genres, particularly third-person action, melee brawlers, and open world traversal games
- A solid understanding of games technology principles
- Effective communication, collaboration and management skills
- Self-directed, organised and able to prioritise effectively
- UE4/UE5 experience preferred
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
