  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience underwriting Construction lines.
  • Experience in underwriting construction insurance is required.
  • A university degree with a focus in business, engineering, or applied science is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in understanding policy wordings and their impact on claims scenarios.
  • Proven analytical skills and a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting that drives profitable growth.
  • Experience working within a guideline framework, underwriting authorities, and protocols.
  • Demonstrated broker relationships with global, national, and regional brokers.
  • Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback respectfully.
  • Ability to manage internal and external meetings with professionalism and clarity while driving mutual accountability for results.
  • Ability to manage change and adapt to new systems and processes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across business units.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of new and renewal Construction business, significantly contributing to the segment’s profitable growth nationally.
  • Collaborate with internal risk services, actuarial, and claims teams to achieve profitable growth through technical research and relationship building.
  • Contribute to new business goals by maintaining a quality pipeline of prospects through targeted marketing, cross-selling, and account-rounding efforts with key broker partners.
  • Ensure proper risk selection, exposure review, profitable terms and conditions, file documentation, and adherence to underwriting guidelines and strategies.
  • Support the team’s underwriting knowledge by handling referrals, sharing best practices, and providing formal and informal training.
  • Coach, mentor, and train colleagues on underwriting, business development, negotiation skills, and other necessary skills to support their ongoing professional development.
  • Manage relationships with key brokers, clients, and prospects to provide service and gather market intelligence to expand product and service offerings.
  • Collaborate on and manage multi-line account solutions while highlighting product differentiators and value propositions.
  • Propose alternate solutions to existing underwriting processes to improve service and simplify the business, and act as an early adopter of new systems and processes.
  • Attend industry events, relevant seminars, and courses as part of continuous learning and development.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A university degree with a focus in business, engineering, or applied science.
  • Experience underwriting Construction lines for 3-5 years.
  • Experience with P&C commercial package, automobile, contractors’ equipment, builders risk, or wrap-up insurance.
