Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Athletic Training or a similar degree.
  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
  • An unrestricted state license, registration, or certification in an applicable regulated jurisdiction to provide healthcare within the scope of practice for Athletic Trainers.
  • A passing score from the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.
  • A National Provider Identifier.
  • Five years of relevant Athletic Training work experience, including experience working with active populations.
  • Experience developing and executing environment-specific functional injury control and health and well-being programs for groups of athletes.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Current physical and immunizations.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms or 45 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with trainees, staff, and other Athletic Trainers orally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, strong interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity when interacting with a diverse soldier population.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as Brigade Lead Athletic Trainer and principal advisor on basic acute care, injury control, reconditioning, and performance optimization.
  • Coordinate with the Brigade Holistic Health and Fitness Strength and Conditioning team, master Fitness Trainers, and Brigade Command Sergeant Major to support unit development and execution of physical-domain training programs for Soldiers with and without physical limitations.
  • Ensure education, instruction, and guidance to Soldiers and Brigade leadership within the Athletic Trainer scope of practice are synchronized with the Brigade training calendar.
  • Provide an Athletic Trainer overview brief for in-processing new Soldiers, including an introduction to Athletic Training, services offered, reasons to seek services, and locations and hours of availability.
  • Develop the overview brief with the entire Athletic Trainer team and organize and ensure its completion.
  • Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment, track supplies, and report deficiencies or needs to the Brigade Program Director.
  • Complete a Monthly Status Report emphasizing recommendations, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with Brigade leadership as requested or required, and review meeting notes and information when absent.
  • Prepare and submit reports as requested by the Brigade Program Director or Injury Control Director/clinical supervisor.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned units at the brigade, battalion, or company level.
  • Provide forward musculoskeletal care, early medical intervention, injury prevention, and performance optimization services in fitness centers, gyms, brigade/battalion/company or administrative areas, outdoors, ranges, field training environments, and the Soldier Performance Readiness Center.
  • Partner with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and Cognitive Performance Specialists in pursuit of Holistic Health and Fitness and brigade mission objectives.
  • Deliver prevention-focused care, acute injury management, and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Engage in performance optimization strategies addressing the physical, mental, nutritional, sleep, and spiritual Holistic Health and Fitness domains.
  • Support improvements in soldier performance, Army Combat Fitness Test pass rates, and resilience across the unit.
  • Observe brigade and subordinate training events, including shooting ranges, obstacle courses, and combative training areas.
  • Prepare, teach, and share educational materials to reduce and mitigate injury and increase soldier performance.
  • Ensure adequate patient care documentation using proprietary healthcare and government software.
  • Participate in government-based education and in-service training mandated by the local installation.
  • Engage in continuing education programs to meet Athletic Trainer license or certification renewal requirements.
  • Conduct business Monday through Friday except federal holidays or when the government facility is closed, with services sometimes scheduled outside normal operating hours and on weekends.
  • Work a 40-hour workweek or 80 hours within a two-week period to accommodate training schedules; schedules may change based on training events and other operational needs.

  • Experience working with high school, collegiate, or professional sports, military, performing arts, and/or occupational health.
